Shift Lever & Floorboard Extensions
« on: January 06, 2010, 11:02:11 PM »

I installed the floorboard extension kit and love it - I now have room and my feet don't hang off the sides and highly recommend the kit to any SESG lover (all chrome as well).

http://harleygoodies.com/pages/fbe_rider.html

Unfortunately, when I took it out for a test drive, I found my toe shift disappeared – or at least it wasn’t located where I’d hoped it would be. By moving the boards out 1” the toe shifter (I don’t use a heel shifter – I removed and replaced it with a chromed HD spline cap) was now inconveniently 1” away from where I’d now like it. The brake wasn’t so big a deal since it’s so large.

I’ve attached a set of photos:
•   The top photo is the kit installed and highlights the 2 chrome spacers on the left side of the bike.
•   The left photo shows the new floor board location and the toe shift relation. It also shows the heel shifter has been removed and the HD spline cap installed.
•   The right photo shows the right side – brake is off but not a big deal to me.

What I’m thinking of doing is moving the toe shift lever from its current location onto the heel lever spline. This should solve the problem. BUT, I’ll need to have some form of bushing or cap that goes over the now-exposed spline. Further, it needs to hold some of the fittings which get exposed. I found what I think will work at http://www.debrix.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=44401-M1 But I don’t know if it will work on the CVO. It says it will fit “1984-up Harley FLT Tour Glide models”. Does that mean it will work on the SESG? Any other ideas for the spline cover. I also noticed there is a rubber grommet of some kind between the toe lever and the transmission case. I assume the new spline cover will need to replace that plus be longer to cover the distance to the heel lever spline. If there is any further guidance on moving the brake peddle/lever , that would also be appreciated.

Is it bothersome that I would go back to the narrower stock floorboard position? Heck no, I’ll get used to the new configuration if I have to before I’d give up the real estate I gained.

Kury Akyn makes a good heel shift eliminator as well, This unit has the toe shift in the heel position.:

I put 2 kits on my SERG. One is the kit you used 1" space out. The other was a Kuryakyn Kit that extens 1" out and 1" forward! I love it. My feet actually sit on the floor boards and not just my heel with the rest of my foot off the front corner. I am a 32" inseam and it fits me great now! Thought I would pass the info along.  :bananarock:

Face, being 1" out and 1" forward, do you know if they'll work with leg fairings?

JC I looked at the instructions and they do not mention. I will take a picture tonight at home and post it. Since i don't have the lowers that's the best I can do.

So far I have not had them drag. I am a pretty aggressive rider also. I live in the windy roads around here and so far so good. It feels good to have your foot on the floorboard not hangin off the front.

Stu, the SERG doesn't sit quite as low as the SEEG.  I used to scrape my SEEG floorboards all the time but haven't scraped mine yet and only scrape Terrie's 09 Street Glide once.

Westcoast, the answer to your question is Absolutely!  If you look at my posting here:   http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=43360.0
you will see that they do make the footboards for the passenger.  I had to do some mods to get some of my parts to work but yours should bolt on right out of the box.  Yours is a touring bike so you would need part # 53070-00A.  That is the chrome piece that bolts to the frame.  then the footboard pan, inserts, pins, springs, and ball bearings are all purchased separately.  I believe I have part numbers for all in my thread, but they are also on another thread for a street glide somewhere here.  That's how I got the info in the first place.  Sometimes the research is much more involved than getting the part.  Contact me in my thread and I will steer you to conclusion if you like.   After all that is said and done, (and yes, you will need a special tool to remove the mounting bolts for your rear pegs.......found that out the hard way, but then you get to add an extra tool to your collection as well.....ha!) you move your rear pegs to your crash bar and that completes the adornment.  let me know.

Do you have some part numbers for that set-up (the passenger floorboards)?  Thanks

The part #50768-07 is the # for the Adjustable Passenger Footboard Mounting Kit, which is what I am using. The # for the smooth chrome pans is 50716-04 if anybody wants to use them.  If you use the adjustable mount kit I'm not sure if you need to buy the balls, spring or pivot pins. Maybe somebody else will chime in.
