Slowly working toward getting this done on the red bike.  All parts not here yet.  Still got to pick a radio with a rear aux port or maybe use that Sony XA-300 adapter and add a rear aux port that way.  But do have these pieces here now (held on with tape for the pic).  The rest will happen later.

Got the GPS mount mostly done this evening.  Little time in the shop well spent.  Generally pleased so far.  Though haven't had it out of the shop yet.  Still have to put the fairing back on...

Against different color schemes or a black inner fairing the black dash pad would've been fine.  For reasons I'm not sure of myself I really didn't like the black pad against the inner fairing on the red bike.  So dressed all the plastics and leather for dye or the appropriate paint and made sure the parts would never have any warranty.  But I do like the look better now.

And with the GPS unit mounted.  It's the Harley version of the Zumo 660.

Also changed radios as part of this task.  Wanted a radio with a rear auxiliary input and needed it to be Sony so it would work with the existing handlebar control adapter.  There wasn't one that also had red displays.  And couldn't abide the Sony blue display against the red illuminated instruments on the bike :puke: .

If changing the radio also wanted one of the "digitial media players" that Porthole discovered awhile back.  No CD player.  Instead it swallows the iPhone or iPod inside the radio and controls the player directly.  So no more skipping CD and a lot less moving parts.

Gaining the rear aux port was a pain in the ass though.  Sony makes something called an XA-300 auxiliary input controller.  It lets several external devices feed the radio but shoe horning this unit inside the fairing was a chore.

Finally all in and hooked up though.  Plays well.  And no aux cord in the front of the radio.  The radio does have a USB port up front though for memory sticks.

The old radio was silver.  What can't be seen well here is the dark black housing that surrounds the radio that is the adapter to put the smaller head unit in the hole for the Harley radio.  Not only does the new radio just look generally cooler it looks much better blending in to the dark fairing and not contrasting with that mounting adapter piece.

No - different bracket altogether, different holes.

Jim
For anyone interested it does require two new holes for the screws. The old are covered by the dash pad and the larger hole fir the harness can be used again. Very clean looking.

So I know this isn't a "Garmin on CVO Ultra Dashpad" as the thread tittle says, but thought I would share anyway. I had my mount molded into the inner fairing of my 2011 SERG. I started with a fairing without mirror holes and also had the clutch cable hole filled in. Now the clutch "line" is routed just like the front brake line, much cleaner then going through the dash. It is all installed and very happy, all I have now is pictures of the fairing..

That's nice.  Like it a lot.  Had considered similar options when I did mine but, honestly, I was too lazy to pull the inner when I didn't have to doing it the other way...
