Does anybody know the part number to the clear tape that goes on the dash?

Just wanted to mention that all the new CVO's coming out with the GPS have this clear piece of tape you are mentioning and it is available in the parts catalog. They have apparently come to the same conclusion you have that the GPS bracket will ultimately rub the paint because of the tight fitment.

Brian

Anyone got the part # for this please?

You don't need it. If you read the previous install steps and the photos on the various threads, you will notice that the plate is approx 1/8" from the dash, so it doesn't ever touch.

Hmm.... I'd like it anyway, just in case.  Anyone got the part number for it?

Next I removed the mount and dashpad to target drilling the 5/8" hole for the wires.  I drilled the hole and routed the power and audio cables thru the hole that I lined with some rubber.

Did mine this weekend past, but instead of drilling the big 5/8" hole on top, (I felt pretty sure that water would run in there) I drilled an 8mm hole at the left hand side of the dashpad mounting hole, then joined the two up. That lets the cable through, and it sits happily alongside the dashpad mounting bolt/washer.

This is an especially good idea if your cradle is the stock Garmin 660 one, rather than the HD one, as it has a HUGE block where one cable splits into four, and the hole you need is bigger than 5/8".

Sorry Jacques, I know -  :worthless: - but I didn't think one was necessary!

I also just cut the holes in my dashpad.  If I ever decide to take the GPS holder off the bike, I figured I could buy a new one then  ;D

Does anyone know if the holes for the fairing mount without the dash pad match up with the holes using the dash pad?

No - different bracket altogether, different holes.
