The OEM 2011 CVO Street Glide speaker grilles arrived and were installed this evening.  They provide essentially a flush mount, and although I plan to paint the speaker boxes to match the bike, the unpainted speaker boxes and grilles don't look bad at all.

Trey, Jim (hd-dude) has seen the OEM 6.5" speakers and related that they are marked as 1 ohm impedance.  At the moment, I plan to have the speaker boxes and grilles color matched with the molded B&S hand painted either silver or black.

The more I've ridden the bike, the more pleased I am with this mod; it really makes a difference in the sound while riding and at modest cost.

One odd aspect of this project is the speaker boxes, which are a substantial piece of molded plastic. list for only $31, but the very simple and speaker grilles list for $37 ea.  So I removed the $20/pair Infinity speaker grilles to replace them with $74/pair OEM speaker grilles.  Huh???

Good luck with your project.

If you plan to use the HD speaker wire harnesses (two needed) and shown above, the pre-assembled end uses a GM Delphi/Packard GT 150 connector.  I bought two of these from Ballenger Motorsports:

http://www.bmotorsports.com/shop/product_info.php/products_id/861

I installed them today and they work as designed.  An open barrel crimp tool is used to attach the pins to the wires.Carl

Edit:  Inserted the correct link.

Can someone show me what an open barrel crip tool looks like, maybe post a like of where to purchase :confused5:

I use this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Sargent-Open-Barrel-Crimper-14-24/dp/B0000WUN1O

At $25, it does a very good job with Deutsch, AMP, and GM/Delphi sockets and pins, though it requires two crimps for each socket/pin:  one for the wire/conductor, and a second for the conduit.

There are more expensive tools that do both crimps at once.

An even less expensive tool that I'd used previously is the Philmore WS26 available at Fry's Electronics for $7.99.  It will do the job, but you will usually need to dress the crimps a bit after each initial crimp.

EDIT:  Found a picture of the two tools I have; the Sargent tool is on the right and the WS26 is on the left:

This link provides a pretty good idea of the crimping process using the Sargent (a\k\a BCT-1) crimp tool, though the crimps are done on a different style terminal than HD uses:

Those look great.  By the way, I have a 2011 CVO street glide and last night I installed a SE heavy breather that is supposed to fit with the lower fairings.  Word to the wise, they do not fit with the speakers.  They may fit with lower fairings that have the glove box in the place of the speakers but they don't fit at all in the speaker configuration.  Just in case you were ever thinking about a different intake.  I will post a pic later so that you see how "crappy" it fits.

here is the pic of the Heavy Breather that is supposed to fit with lower fairings.   As you can see, the filter element had to be pushed onto the intake tube way too far and even then it was right up against the speaker housing and more importantly the paint.  I took it back today and returned it, since the P&A book stated that it would fit and the dealership thought the same.  They were really good about taking it back since it was the first one they had sold to a FLHXSE2 owner and they didn't know about the fit issue.

Just finished mine today. I had them painted to match an used kenwood speakers.  Hawg Wired is working. On 6.25" speakers and I was too impatient to wait so I went with these temporarily.  Here's a few pics.

hd-dude,
What Kenwood speakers are those? I would like to find those speaker grills.
Thanks!

The factory Harmon Kardon amp (under the tourpack) is looking for a 2 ohm load. If you add another set of speakers to the front channel you would need to wire them in parallel and use 4 ohm speakers in the fairing and lowers. Most all aftermarket speakers are 4 ohm. Alternately you could add a 2 channel amp in the fairing to run the lower speakers. This would be ideal as you could set up the volume level on the lower speakers independently.

hd-dude, dump question how would I hook they up in parallel? I do remember the whole parallel & series circuit theory, but to do it it's a different thing.

You're welcome, Trey.

With the holidays gone, my painter and I are trying to get my paint work scheduled, including the speaker boxes.

Sorry for the delayed reply, I missed this post....the speakers are the KFC-X1730. The grilles did need to be modified a bit to fit flush into the speaker boxes.
