Should I, Yes or No?
« on: July 20, 2012, 11:03:41 PM »

I really like my 2012 SERG.
It is a beautiful bike.
In the brochure, first time I saw it in person and every time I look at it I think, those are strange mirrors on that bike.
They are functional, they are definitely different but why did they select round ones?
With all that said, what if I changed to these?

What you think, yes or no?

Chip, those stock mirrors suck, that's all there is to it.  I'd definitely change them out.  I just put these on the SEUC because I thought the stock ones on it were too generic and plain Jane.  They don't come in black, unfortunately, or those would look good on the SERG, too.

The only thing about the tribal ones is there's nothing else tribal on the SERG, is there?  The tribal cut is highlighted on those, so it is going to stick out.  What about the "Buckshot Mirror," part number 92416-08?  It's a straight satin black like your stockers, so would look more like it belonged there and came that way.

Got the Chrome ones on my Orange bike. Very much like the look as do others. Lost a little area but it's not a problem at all. Never did like the look of the stock mirrors.

I agree the round ones suck! I'm not sure this is the right mirror as Brian mentioned. I really like the wide narrow profile mirror shape.

That was one of the first mods I did on my Harley.

I agree with what was already posted, that the "tribal" look on your bike would not be right as there is nothing else "tribal" on the bike, but if that is the "shape" of the mirrors you are looking for, how about these:

Had these installed on delivery.  Liked the idea of being more visible to on-coming traffic and the smoke lens matches the tailights.

It's like Willie G. said, "I want you guys to make the most badass Road Glide, ever, and just to show that it is, you should put my skulls all over it.  But ......... for the mirrors, I want you to go out and find the chittiest mirrors known to man and put those on it.  If you don't, you're all fired!" :huepfenlol2:

I agree that the stock mirrors do not fit with the rest of the bike. Since this thread stared a couple of days ago I have been all over the internet looking for that "perfect set". I like the larger size of the stock ones. Any other ideas out there?

Black IMO, Either something from the HD collection or a well known company. The no name stuff is crap, the glass turns brownish and the finish doesn't hold up. What to choose depends on you and your size. Cute little mirrors with small stems generally don't let you see around your shoulders. Then again they don't need to look like a set of GM pickup truck mirrors either. As for the black finish I wouldn't go crazy trying to come up with a matte black finish. A gloss black will turn to flat black with a little neglect!  ;)

Thanks everyone for the replies.
I see that most feel about the round stock mirrors as I do.
I'm thinking I may try the PM mirrors.
http://www.performancemachine.com/motorcycle-accessories/mirrors.html
If they are to shiny I can get my painter to dull them up a bit.
(Damn, buying new parts and then complaining cause their to shiny)
I will post some pictures once I'm done.
Again, thanks.

I put on the Harley Edge Cut as Hawg showed, looks good and can see good. Black matches bike, and the cuts match the Billet brake and shift linkage.

Unique is fine but for me uniqueness ends when ugly over rides unique.
My issue with the round mirrors on the 12 SERG is that they are not part of a matching collection set on the bike.
The mirrors do not match the shifter linkage, the shifter, the hand grips, the floorboards, the breather or the side covers.
I'm not sure what they are suppose to match or tie back to. Maybe I have missed the entire concept of the round mirrors.
Each to their own I guess.
Of course I will keep the stock ones to go back on should the 12 SERG ever leave it's home.
But if that does happen, as it leaves I will take that last look and think, those mirrors are as ugly today as they were the day I brought that bike home.

I get it... Just trying to be funny... But until I can find something better, stock units it is... Now, about those levers:

Unique is fine but for me uniqueness ends when ugly over rides unique.

On the mirrors... I have some that were installed on my sport bike. Beautiful Italian mirrors made by Rizoma.  Here, take a look at what they have:

http://www.rizoma.com/universal/mirrors/en

I did install those on my Sedona Orange RGC despite some HD purist comments  ;D .  I should install those on the CVO to see how they go with the rest of the bike, hummm

These are the Rizoma Protype Sport...

Hey I know why round mirrors........they match the round skull emblems on that model...... :huepfenlol2:

They just left the skulls off the mirrors as a cost cutting thing...   :huepfenlol2:

An observation...probably been said before, but not by me.  :confused5:

It's simply amazing to read this conversation regarding mirrors on a 30K plus MC.  Weren't the upgraded mirrors a standard part of the CVO package in the past?  If they're doing these kinds of cuts to the cost on such obvious parts; one wonders what they're doing on parts you can't see...or is there something I'm missing?  The price keeps going up and what they give is less...????

These bikes are their most profitable product.  But it appears that isn't enough.  Based on what I've read in various threads, MoCo is at risk of losing a significant number of their most loyal customers...or do they know for sure we'll suck it up because we all know buying a CVO is just a start?  And it is going to be necessary to sink another grand or two to have the bike look and run the way they should out of the factory.

I'm enjoying the heck out of my bike and am constantly finding ways to tweak and personalize; but something as simple and inexpensive as matching mirrors to the rest of the hardware is a no brainer.  I wonder what think tank that one came out of.  Obviously one that is not in touch with CVO buyers.   But even so, they're still selling like hotcakes... :nixweiss:  Go figger... :drink:

Go ahead, keep changing your stock units... I will be the only one running with the stock units and my bike will look unique!  :P

Seem I am the only one that likes the stock units... visibility is frigging great with them.  ;)

I too think the stock ones offer great visibility.  They look pretty good on the bike.  Mine are being changed due to changing the bars.  The new bars will be gloss black so I needed gloss black mirrors.
