Are True Dual Headers louder?
« on: March 01, 2010, 12:51:14 PM »

Will the installation of True Dual headers impact on overall noise level on the scooter?   ???

If applicable please specify your header in the comment.  Thanks  8)

More information would help with this question.  I assume your talking about a stock 110" SE Road King.  Nearly all aftermarket systems seem to be louder than stock.  I had a 2004 RG with a 103" and Rinehart TD's... VERY LOUD but they had the louder of two optional baffles.  Help us out here.  Good luck!

I can relate to ya my experience from last year.  Got a new '09 SE Ultra and they were supposed to add on V&H (Power Duals) this is their new two into one and then back into two setup.  To that package,  I had them install Rinehart mufflers.

By mistake,  they installed a new set of V&H "True Duals"........This is a set of pipes that does NOT come together.....each pipe serves just one cylinder.

Now with that setup,  the bike was pretty damn loud. :-[

A couple of weeks later,  the dealer got in the correct set of V&H (Power duals) and replaced the wrong set with the new correct set..........using the same Rinehart mufflers.

The results were noticably quitier,   it's still kinda loud,  but not nearly as much as it was with the True Dual setup. :P

Let me clarify.  Will True Duals headers be louder than stock headers without changing the slip-on exhaust?
I do not have stock slip-ons anymore. I have Pythons, but the question is about headers, not slip-on exhaust.

Thanks for your feedback

I have kept the stock SE mufflers, but put the V&H true dual headers on.

There is a noticeable difference in the sound.  Although my bike is not as loud as those who have put after makret mufflers on, I like mine just the way it is.

Sounds good to me and I can still hear my radio without cranking up the volume too much.

The simple answer is yes, any true dual system is louder than the same system that has a crossover pipe.  A crossover pipe does two things, it increases torque & it changes the frequency of the sound.  There are twice as many exhaust pulses in both pipes with a crossover.  Remember, I said if the systems were identical & one had a crossover.  Don't confuse the comparison of one system with a crossover & a different system that is true duals.

It is all about how well the system is designed in eather case.

So the bottom line is, if nothing else is changed except for going to true dual headers, the noise level increases.  Well, you guys just saved me from wasting money on new headers.   :pepper:

Thanks

and the difference in power and torque with the 2 setups?

I switched out my stock headers for V&H duals , keeping the SE 4" Touring mufflers .  Mine is a bit louder , but still not loud, just a niceer more HD sounding pulse

I have True Duals with Rineharts, loud enough to set off car alarms so I guess they are just right.  Honestly very loud.

Hey Worship....

I don't remember the specific nums running the "true duals",  but the output was more with the "Power Duals".  My latest numbers were in the 106 to 108 range.  Not quite as good as I would have liked.

What is the reason for the performance-increase when using the V&H power duals ?
 The smaller collecting header-chamber ?
Why ?
Less emission turbulences causes better flow ?

 :bananarock:

Just how I like it too!
My last bike was a RK with aftermarket 110" and full Rinehart duals w/ louder baffles.
All top end power, and at idle it would set off car alarms in a parking lot. :)
Standing behind the bike, power pulses from the exhaust would fluff your jeans from 20+ feet back.
The wife did not enjoy that exhaust.
If I understand correctly, idle will lope more with true dual than with 2-1 or crossover system.
