Contemplating getting the bride a heated jacket liner and was leaning toward the Gerbings. Interested to hear what heated gear you've purchased and where you purchased it from. I'm a little ignorant on the subject.

Very happy with the HD heated jacket liner. It has built in cords for heated gloves. With a two-control thermostat (also HD) you can set separate temps for gloves and jacket liner.

Gerbing makes the HD stuff. You can get it at 20% off dealers. Buying direct from Gerbing usually means a better warranty, but you pay list for the clothes. Sometimes you have a problem dealing wih Gerbing, if you bought the stuff elsewhere. Not sure how long HD gives ya, but you deal with HD, not Gerbing. ;)

Gerbing gives a life time if purchased thru and authorized Gerbing dealer.
Wife gets a very good discount at HD dealer as she is an employee. Yet at the local Gerbing dealer we could get their stuff for much less then HD.
HD gloves, 165, with discount they were 115, the Gerbing gloves were 105. Pants and jacket liner were also less thru local gerbing dealer.

I understand the Gerbings sizing is not what you think? is it bigger or smaller than what is advertised? Having her try it on before Christmas is not an option, she's high maintenance and likes to be surprised. If her leather Jacket is an XL currently, do I get a XL liner or do I go with a L liner?
I've emailed Gerbings but it doesnt look like they're going to respond.

Sizing is odd.. but I can't remember as to large/smaller. On the jacket liner, there are usually 3 ? measurements that are needed. You should be able to find the requirements for measuring on the gerbing site. I remember getting the instructions off the site, taking the measurements, and then calling them up with the order.
I have the heated liner, pants, and socks. I've always dealt directly with gerbing..... great quality..... great customer service.

Actual Sleeve Size: With arm in riding position, measure from the back, start from the center of neck, over point of shoulder, around back of elbow and down outside of arm to the wrist. This sleeve measurement is your actual sleeve size. If your sleeve measurement falls between two sizes, then go up to the next sleeve size.

I've bought all my recent Gerbing stuff (1 full suit plus a few extras) from Mike Vlahos at http://www.heatedclothing4you.com/
He is the #1 Gerbing retailer and is extremely diligent about it. He will talk to you on the phone as you take measurements he directs, in order to make sure you get the proper fit. He helps Gerbing with the designs, so he is extremely knowledgeable about the product. I highly doubt you'll get him to give you 20% off, but he will give you better customer service than you will get anywhere else. Personally, I'd rather have the right fit than the lowest price.

I also bought a couple of the BMW style recepticles and had a bracket made that's mounted to the frame under the seat, to plug in to. :2vrolijk_21:

Make sure and get the new micro wire stuff or look for those selling the old stuff very cheap. I'm sending a new liner from my jacket and they are adding heat to it, just another idea available.

We tried the gloves alone but routing the wire thru the jacket then down the sleeves was really a hassle. So we got the jackets which makes hooking up the gloves a breeze. First tried the single controller with a "Y" connector but the jacket got too hot while the gloves were good. So had to get the dual controller. You almost have to try this stuff on to get the right fit, they have so many sizes available so you can get a good fit. Using the same sizing I buy my shirts sleeve length seemed short but dealer said they do that on purpose so it doesnt bunch up around your wrists while riding. The H-D variety did not have some features found on the gerbing.

Thanks for the website. I talked to Mike this morning and ordered two pairs of gloves. He's a real stand up guy and very passionate about his product. He had some great suggestions as well. I'd recommend buying any Gerbing products from him.

Gerbing is the best, but definitely go Micro wire. It is hard to regulate your hands and body, so you may want to go with heated grips and seat and go then with the jacket liner.
If you don't care about the micro wire, ebay has some great deals at times on the older items, especially heated vests.

So what is the Mirco wire as opposed to "not" mirco wire?? Would I be happy with either??

The only real difference is micro wire heats up quicker. The older style is tried and proven from years of use.

The wife and I are both very happy with the HD gear.
It did help that I have "points" at the dealership which saved us 50% on the cost.

I purchased mine directly from Gerbing while in Daytona. I had just purchased my SERG and decided to ride to Daytona from PA. Well I wasn't equipped gear wise to make this trip. I froze my testicles off when the sun dropped behind the trees the first day. I swore that would never happen again. As soon as I saw the Gerbing tent in Daytona I purchased everything but the socks! I use the jacket liner and gloves often as they work great. I've used the pants maybe three times since 01. I even use the gear on my 4 wheeler when plowing the driveway.

I agree. Gerbings is "hot". I also have my Polaris Ranger wired to keep me warm while plowing snow, as well as my John Deere lawn tractor with a snowblower. They work great

I bought some of the hand grip heaters from them, they work great, produce a LOT of heat. They have other heated gear you wear under regular pants and coats that were really good deals. I met them at a bike show in Greenville SC. Good folks to deal with.

We bought our Gerbing stuff at the GASP...Honda dealer, They had a trained guy that measured/fitted us to perfection! They even gave us a 10% H.O.G. discount! Waaay cheaper than the HD stuff and expertly fitted.

Just bought a jacket liner and gloves, HD stuff, from my local dealer - got a 15% discount. Got the dual control thermostat, too.
Decided to install the dedicated wiring harness to the battery instead of trying to use the battery tender lead (book said not to use battery tender lead). At 8.6 amps max draw, it might have been okay. I put a 15 amp fuse in the holder - don't want a erroneous fuse blow on a cold day.
The installation process went fine: I followed the recommendations on this forum so not to have the alarm siren go off (have the key fob on the bike, turn on the ignition, pull the Maxi-fuse). Worked fine....putting things back in, I turned the ignition switch to off BEFORE installing the Maxi-fuse....worked fine. No alarm. Had to reset the clock, but that's all.
Now, need a cold day to try this all out!

Strange time to discuss heated gear BUT...my comments are:
- A MUST is to try it on; jacket liner should be slightly snug over a T-shirt (that's all you want under the liner) - my other apparel are gloves, try some on, too....makes internet sales difficult unless you 'do the obvious'
- I bought HD cause they had a 20% off sale...HD heated stuff is made by Gerbing and comes with a lifetime warranty on the electrical part....can't beat that! :bananarock:
