The NorCal crew

Michael on his RG
-
Michael tuning his bike? Or programming his GPS?
-
Not sure what the guys are doing to Roger's Jester
-
Another view of Terrie's SG. Can you tell I'm mesmerized by it?

The Huckleberry and the Ruby Red

ErnieZap, Vgirl and Roger
-
GregKhougaz and Vgirl
(Wish I had photo shop...Chief can you take this pic and one of the others and fix this?)
-
Ironhorse and Vgirl
-
The reason the group subjected themselves to a mediocre beach dive...
This is Ted Russell Kamp. He is a member of the .357's and plays for Shooter Jennings, but also just released his solo CD.
I met him in Nashville at the CMT Crossroads taping and asked JC if we could go see him while I was out. The group was nice enough to agree. The music was much better than the food and the service. He even played blues for JC "but too bad the guy who requested blues just walked out." We didn't stay for his whole show. Everyone was ready for bed.
-
The group laughing about JCZ GPS routes.
-
JC explaining he has two speeds...STOP and BAT OUT OF HELL!
-
AK joining in on the conversation but guarding his B&B. He knows I've been eyeing it all night.
-
JCZ and Vgirl
-
OK, JC! Your turn. You better not post any goofy looking pics of me! See you in 12 mins.
-
After Ernie called me and mentioned that it might be snowing over the grapevine, we decided to go down I-5 to Pacheco Pass and cut over to Hwy. 101. We left Sacramento.........in the rain. Met up with Jon in Stockton......in the rain. Rode down I-5 to Pacheco Pass where it quite raining just long enough for us to get over the top........then it rained the rest of the way into Salinas where we stopped for the night.
Waited for Andy, Ernie and Michael.....they came straggling in about 8:40 a.m. yesterday........
-
Roger had arrived earlier.
After breakfast we headed south on 101. Stopped for gas somewhere down by Pismo Beach........
-
Of course we thought about our friend Rooster and Karen when we heard this critter crowing across the street from the gas stop.........
-
Terrie wolfing down the Tiger Milk bar...... ;D
-
Finally arrived and parked for the day. We have 529 miles on the clock already.
-
Jon just resting his weary body after that non-stop ride......
-
The guys unpacking.... V-girl was there to greet us as we rolled in.
Andy, Jon and I had met V-girl three years ago, when we did our ocean to ocean ride. Terrie met her a couple of years ago, while we were back there on vacation. So it was old friends catching up........
-
V has already been warned.........don't take anything Ernie says to seriously...
-
Be very suspicious V! :huepfenlol2:
-
Michael is either frustrated with his tuning........or........thinks it's very funny. Take your pic.... :nixweiss:
-
Hey, Jon is finally working on somebody else' bike.......
-
All this over a fuse :nixweiss:
-
The party soon ended up in our room......
-
Roger's version of it all.......
-
Don't bother me....I'm busy..... ;D
-
Terrie's protesting........not sure what she's protesting, but she's protesting......
-
We arrived at the Prince of Whales and finally meet Greg.....V is asking him if it's true that everybody in Cali has a tan? :huepfenlol2:
-
Roger speaking the So Cal surfer language......
-
Jon sharing with Andy his version of the ride south.....something about how they missed the off ramp....... :nixweiss:
-
Michael......said he's working.
-
V working the crowd. All of a sudden Michael forgot about work.... :nixweiss:
-
Roger and Greg......
-
Ernie, Vernee and Roger.......
Got to go. Will post more later........
-
Looks like you all are having a great time!!!! Keep the pics coming V girl and JC!! Have fun in the class....wish I were there!!!

Back to posting photos..........
V put Greg right to sleep.
-
Parked in front of the Prince of Whales.
We had a good time but we were all dog tired from the long day and the long haul.......
-
Thanks to an air card I'm able to post some of the photos that I just took.
The Nor Cal crew in school.......
-
The trouble makers have to stand.......... :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:
-
Free promo for Mark (Ironhorse on this forum). Great guy and a damn good instructor, too.......
He's only 5'6" and 140 lbs. but handles his Ultra Classic like it's a mini bike.
-
Terrie volunteered to go first.........
-
It begins with the easy skills and progresses as the day goes on.....
-
and another.........
-

-
Her turn....Please note the name of the street. This was just outside the school gate where the class was. Sorry Donna ;)
-
The extent of Ernie's poll dance!
-
On the left is panheadjimmy from the site, great guy with a beautiful 09 RG Pumkin. Was looking forward to meeting him and was not disappointed. What can be said about meeting vgirl, what a great lady! We could spend a lot of time with her if she didn't live so far away, guess a trip east for Donna and I is in order. Thanks to all for a great time and please everyone get home safely, Dave
-
Thanks to an air card I'm able to post some of the photos that I just took.

Class over........headed for lunch at the deli...
-
From the left side, working around the table to the right.....
Michael (Moto Michael), Jimmy (Panhead Jimmy), Greg (GregKhougaz), Roger (Trapperdog) and Andy (AK).
Some of the So Cal crew, Greg, Jimmy, Dave (Wrongway) and Donna (Lil Bit) all showed up and went riding with us today. Was great to meet them, ride with them and just plain get to know em a bit as we went through the day.....
Thanks for coming out and hanging with us everybody! :2vrolijk_21: You guys all have a standing invitation in Nor Cal!
-
Donna and V-girl getting their issue of the b-b-q tri tip.......
-
Another member of this forum and from Nor Cal, Marie (Smokin Jacket) flew in for the course this afternoon. We rode back over to the school after lunch to meet her and her friend, Carol (not yet a member of this forum, but soon to be).
-
Marie...trying on Terrie's Street Glide for size.

Terrie says "he makes it possible for girls like us to ride with the big dogs!" 8)
-
Here's one of those Hollywood bikers that we ran into at Bartells HD.
-
There were a surprising number of tricked out bikes all owned by youngsters ( I doubt the oldest was 25) all packing some of those hotties that So Cal is known for.......yep, it was a young man riding Pink Trash.....
-
A tail dragger.......
-
Interesting Rocker.......
-
An interesting Victory.......
-
and a very clean Road Glide.........

Roland Sands Design apparently was the builder of several of these bikes. A group of CVOs pulling in to the parking lot had them all stopping what they were doing and staring at us out of curiousity..... :nixweiss:
-
Here's one of the colorful baggers that was for sale inside the store.........

THE DAWG
-
Loved the pics JC...great pic of you and Terrie!!! From what Roger said you all had a great time!! Be safe on your trip back!!
-
Hey SGChick - I wish you could have made the trip. I heard so much about you from Terrie, Donna, and the crew. I just saw your better half, AK and ErnieZap off! I was quietly trying to sneak out for coffee a little after 5:00AM and found AK and Ernie loading up their bikes. Roger came out loaded up his old school sneaks and they hit the road. Of course, I delayed them just a few minutes saying good bye. I can't wait to meet you! I hope you and Terrie have a blast on your ladies ride and wish I could join you. :2vrolijk_21:
-
It's 6:oo a.m. and I think that was Roger that just fired up and pulled out......he planned on leaving very early to be home by 1:00 p.m. I wish you could have joined us Melanie. As usual, we've had a great time.
It's been great to see V again.......she's always a lot of fun. She's gotta be careful though....she's gonna catch one of these Cali boys with that southern accent. By the way, she did about the best of everybody in that class yesterday. That's saying a lot and I was surprised as we'd rode with her previously. But she was able to turn her head to do the "chin plant on the shoulder" (look where she's going to go next) and dip that bike over on a consistent basis more than all the others. No, she never dropped her bike.....not one time, other than the practice exercise where he shows you how to drop it and step away and then pick it up.
Here are some photos that I took with a different camera.........
-
Look at the "chin plant on sholder" and dip in this photo!
V, as Andy and the others were telling you last night, you can ride with us anywhere, any time and we hope it's soon! :2vrolijk_21: And we do hope you consider moving out here.........that'd be great.
-
And one more of Terrie getting through the course on the Kawasaki....she liked riding her bike better.
-
So, a last one of Terrie on her Street Glide........
-
Terrie did great on the course! I was glad she took it. She was my inspiration and had to assure me more than once that I could handle that worse-than-a-Sportster top-heavy scoot! I wish someone could have videotaped her coming up the weave the first time on her Ruby Red! I was so excited I couldn't restrain myself from hooping and hollering! It was PERFECT!!!
BTW, Terrie told me I could fly out anytime and she'd pick me up from the airport and I could ride with you!
 I hope she told you she volunteered your backseat!! LOL! But I told her NO WAY!! I want her to get a pee pad so I can't ride with her!
After hearing about her lane splitting, watching her do the exercises and seeing her give AK a ride 2-up on a Kawasaki 1000, she's the bomb!!
She's a brave woman riding with you guys through LA traffic, driving between cars, and running the gap at Venice Beach! I was VERY impressed.
I had so much fun! I can't wait to come out again. Even the people I just met (Wrongway, Lil Bit, Moto Michael, GregK, and Roger) seem like old friends!
-
Ok, my turn. It's funny when we all retire to our rooms and we all log on and see each other online!
Day two...Ride Like A Pro West Coast style!
-
The day started with a bang!
-
Oh hell yea.........I almost forgot! Terrie gave her first passenger ride yesterday. Andy was the one riding bitch and she took off through the parking lot. Funniest site I've saw in a long time but Andy couldn't hang long enough for me to go back up and get a camera. :nixweiss: You'll just have to take our word for it. :2vrolijk_21:
-
I wanted to kick AK in the shin when he volunteered me to practice dropping my bike. I managed to plant my butt into it and get it back up...and that wasn't easy even with my butt but it is doable! :2vrolijk_21:

Hey VGirl,
Hope to meet ya one of these days too!! Sounds like you're thinking of moving out here....yippee!! :pepper: :pepper: Another gal for our girl rides! Glad you did so well in the class :2vrolijk_21:...I'm looking forward to taking it...hopefully sometime this summer. Hope you make it out here again soon!!!
-
RLAP at the beginning of class.
-
Watch how the dips get lower for everyone not just me. Once you loosen up and relax, it's a piece of cake. As Jon pointed out it is weird watching other people do it!

RLAP. Now I'm getting my groove on!
-
RLAP. Towards the end of class.
-
Reassembling bikes after the course. This is why I wanted to take it in LA. Ironhorse has the only location that does a fly-and-ride program with rental bikes so you're not worrying about dropping the bike. However, the Kawasaki 1000 reminded me of riding my 1200S. I'm spoiled! The SEEG and Vrod both have low centers of gravity. There is one advantage though on these bikes. You can lean!

What GREAT pictures! I wish I could have been off playing with you guys later on. But we still have the Buellton/Solvang thing coming up, and I am so looking forward to it. Ya'll (Vernees catching on with me) did really well in class. I was very pleased with everyone and their abilities. Everyone had good command and control of their bikes. Once folks relaxed and loosened up they found they could turn the bars tighter and quicker which made the drills and exercises a bit easier. And as the level of confidence goes up, the bikes get leaned over more, the speed picks up a little and they glide through the drills smoother and quicker. Not too many "old bad habits" among those "old bad bikers" to point out. And yes, I was very impressed with the way Vernee and Terri did their head turns. Vernee all the guys were commenting on how well you rode. Very motorcop like! Marie and Carol did GREAT too and really wished they could have hung out with you all more.
Interesting observations. The second class (the one with Marie and Carol) had one lone BMW rider. He could NOT believe that ya'll rode in from NorCal and flew in from Georgia and the bay area. I told them it was part training and part social. After watching you guys chew the fat for 45 mins I could see that he was impressed/envious with the level of camaraderie we had. My younger son Nicholas (the afternoon class "employee") pointed out that the Harley Riders all speak really LOUD, and the BMW rider spoke in a normal tone of voice. I told him it's because we're all partially deaf from the wind in our ears and the melodious sounding bikes!
Buellton/Solvang here I come!!!!!
-
A quick intro to Mark was all he had time for. Can't wait to get to know him in 3 weeks! He knows how to ride and passes it along to others, what can be said about a person that want's others safe? Thank you Mark!
-
I still have more pics to post but had to stop to see JC and Terrie off around 8am. Then Moto Michael and I went to find breakfast. Found this local dive that we weren't sure about until we walked in and it was filled with locals dressed from pj's to suits. Then we knew we stumbled across a local favorite. The food was unbelievable good. Moto Michael just dropped me back off and he's on his way to visit his mom. I'm waiting for the shuttle. I'll keep posting pics until I leave then I'll post the farewell photos when I get home or maybe tomorrow while waiting on another plane in ATL for the NE invasion!
And this is a good time to say, "Wow! I love this site." What a great bunch of people and some of my best friends! And I met them on a forum. Sounds weird but true! We were talking about how I met JC, AK, and Jonga a few years ago on their Coast-to-Coast trip. I had not been riding long (January to whenever they made the trip). I had just bought the Vrod two or three weeks earlier and had NO riding experience whatsoever. I was a little shy (if you can believe that) and tried to back out of meeting them. TCnBham and Diva called from the Atlanta dealership and said, "They are waiting on you." I had not left my house and tried to back out again. After a second call from JC, I knew I had to make the effort regardless of my apprehension. I headed out on a route that Terry said would probably be quickest. NOT! Twisties across North Georgia along side some river that looked like you'd fall off was not the quickest route for an amateur rider. At this point, no one had ever met me and the running joke was "what does she look like" because I wouldn't post pics. The minute I pull into the parking lot, Jonga's sister, Heidi was clicking away. Without me even addressing the issue, JC posted pics but only from the back or from the side with full helmet and gear on. So the joke went on! I made them late to the first item on their agenda, Wheels through Time, and meeting SBB. Yet, those guys after flying the red-eye cross-country and being dogtired waited. I had already been in contact with Heidi via email and they were so totally psyched about the whole trip. I was intimidated and afraid to meet other CVO members. I was afraid to ride with such experienced riders for fear of embarrassing myself. Yet, they waited so I trekked on. We took the tour and made our way to NC. After the road captain had a "come to Jesus" team meeting on the side of the road at a rest stop because I was riding too slow, I wasn't sure if this whole meeting was a great idea. But the Cali guys stuck it out with me. We got lost in a torrential downpour with lightning that would scare a dead man. Mrs. Amateur Rider on the Vrod - with no jacket, no raingear, no clothes - was standing under an overpass with this crazy guys from NorCal in a lightning storm....
One of the best experiences in my life! I wouldn't trade those memories for anything. We've stayed in touch via this site and I consider the NorCal crew some of my best friends. Then when JC and Terrie came out for vacation later that year I took off to Chattanooga to meet them. It was freezing and I remember take pics of JC and Terrie in a department store buying gloves because they were miserable. We had dinner and they headed out to the next stop. It was the first time I had met Terrie and instantly liked her. I knew then she was a trooper and liked adventure. I'm not sure I would have taken this class with all these guys if she had not been there. It's a little intimidating when you see guys riding that have been riding for years zip through LA traffic like its nothing. Plus, they ride together a lot and know each other's style. Terrie sticks right with them even when it pushes her outside her comfort zone. She's great and I'm so glad we had the opportunity to meet and become friends.
Then yesterday, I met new CVO members. It's like your instant family with these guys. Lil Bit, Wrongway, Panhead Jimmy, Ironhorse, and GregK were perfect hosts. I have had a blast and hate to get on the plane!
Ok, so much for pics. G2G. Will post them later. Miss you guys already!

We all got a bit of a sun burn on our noses, yesterday......and we're all from Cali. :nixweiss:
By the way.....forgot to mention. I dropped my bike! :o I wasn't even taking the training. The class limit is seven and I gave my spot up so a friend could go. But I got on my bike (fully loaded, tour pack, saddle bags and all) and decided I was going to do a few of the exercises anyway. Now I've taken the course before and I heard Mark's verbal training before each exercise so I was "refreshed" in that regard. But.......got a little to confident (never dropped it when I took the first class) and it was the exercise where you start a u-turn from a dead stop with the forks turned all the way to the fork stops. Going to the left, twisted the throttle just a bit, eased the clutch out and wham....bike is on the ground. I stepped off, as he taught so no injury there. The bike fell against the floor board brackets and stayed right there.......so no damage to anything. Just thought I should tell it like it is. :nixweiss:
-
A U-turn from a dead stop on a freakin' hill!!!
-
BTW, I made it home safe and sound. Just wolfed down some late dinner, grabbed suitcase #2 put it by the door, and sat down to finish my photo-documentary!
The best pics are yet to come.

Another demonstration of how close we were to the airport

We were discussing the RLAP class and all that jazz and the subject came up about demonstrating how you drop and pick up your motorcycle...
LOL! Trapperdog you're about to be in trouble! :vrolijk_10:
-
The guys were commenting on how Terrie and I demonstrated how you drop your bike and step away.
Roger decided he'd demonstrate how sgchick would step away from her motorcycle if she dropped it!
And since :worthless: I just have to post it!
-
Can you tell we're all a bit tired, hungry and maybe a tad bit stressed after class?

After a little food and entertainment we were feeling better

I think this was when ErnieZap was telling us the story about someone's Walmart rain suit
-
Zap
-
It had to be Ernie's story because I'm not that funny (unless they're making fun of my accent again)
-
Terrie's taking over the camera
-
So had to get one of her and JC
-
JC and Terrie headed back before us. We just knew it was because JC was so tired and was ready to hit the sack!
WRONG!!! He had to go post his pics before I did.
-
OK, that's it for day two! I took more of the crew leaving this morning, but I haven't uploaded them from the camera yet, and I have got to hit the hay because I have to get back up in 5 hours to catch another flight. Will upload the rest tomorrow sometime.
Once again, it was a fabulous trip! The class alone was worth the trip, but seeing the CVO folks was definitely an added bonus! Thanks Mark for such a great class. Thanks Cali crew for such great "Southern Hospitality!"

Roger you are just to cute. ;D

Had to follow up with a Hell yeah, its great to be part of this site and all the good people on it. I had a great time at the class, I learned alot. I also was impressed with Terri's and V-girls skills. It was pretty cool to see Terri splitting lanes like a pro. I'd have to say V-girl had the turn your head, dip the bike and flow thru the turn better than me. She looked like a pro out there. I have to add all that was due to some fine instructions thanks again to Mark.
I had to leave early to get home for a easter egg hunt, so I missed a little of the party. I would surly make the trip again if the occasion arose. Nothing like good friends having a great time.......going on a ride. See everyone in 2 weeks for the Solvang ride....... Jon
-
VGirl.....awesome pics :2vrolijk_21: It's nice to have another photographer in the group so we can see some pics of JC too!! Yes...I've heard and seen Rogers impression of me dis-embarking from my bike...lol! And he does it so well!! :pepper: Looking forward to your next trip out!!

Excuse me........that was Cali hospitality! Not to be confused with any other...... ;D

Wow, lots of great pics! Thanks to Vgirl and JC for their pics and posting :) Also, many thanks to JC for giving me his spot in the class at the last moment :2vrolijk_21: He's one heck of a great guy! (I guess he's not to worried about me learning to out maneuver him) And also thanks to Jonga for letting me share his room at the last moment! It was fun meeting and again seeing some of the South Cal crew. All in all, it was a great trip filled with fun, camaraderie, and tall tales!

Another post for Mark and his RLAP class. His class provides an excellent foundation for those newer riders lucky enough to take it and an opportunity for seasoned riders to obtain much more control and fluidity within their riding. Mark is a great guy and an excellent teacher. The small fiduciary investment in his class is sure to reap high personal rewards with a little practice. :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

NO KIDDING!!! That was the best $150 I ever spent! I watched the video several times but it is a whole different ballgame doing it in class. Mark never intimidated me. He told me I could do it when I didn't think it was possible. When he told me to follow him through the figure 8, I thought the man had lost his mind. But it did two things...made me ride faster and realize that I could ride better than I thought because he trusted me enough to ride in close confines risking TWO of his motorcycles!
I highly recommend the class and Mark as an instructor.

Thanks Vernee, but I was just looking for an excuse to chase you around in front of every one else,.....LOL!!!!
I'm glad you enjoyed the class. Now I hope to see you back and taking advantage of the free return policy.

I was just thinking that I might have to time return visits to coincide with your class. I have already told two or three people they should take it. I told a couple of ladies that if they will take it, I will take it again. I told the Terrie, Jon, Ernie and AK that I want to practice so much that I can say, "...and here's what it looks like" as I jump on my bike and make it look like I'm riding a tricycle like you do! I had to keep reminding myself that your ride is an Ultra Classic. It just doesn't seem that big when you're whipping it around like it's a Huffy!

Half the Nor Cal crew loading up to go Sunday morning

JC and Terrie on their way

And here's Moto Moto heading out.

And then I made my coast-to-coast trip. Here's my view of the Boston invasion. I'll be seeing Mr & Mrs Naitram on Thursday!!! :beerchug:
Hopefully, WFP and his wife can join us!!!!

Someone is in a WELL deserved tired state. Until next time V, ride safe and consider that trade for a Crimson for your :bananarock:

LOL! That's funny! My son's favorite song is from "Moto Moto" in Madagascar 2. "Moto Moto...the name so nice you have to say it twice!" I guess I was thinking about that when I typed Moto Michael!

When you and your friends finally decide, give me a couple of weekend dates to work with and I'll check with the school to see if their parking lot is available for training. We'll make it work!

I already talked with Mark about another CVO group taking the course.......that several members had told me they wished that they'd known about this ahead of time. I started a thread so we can get a head count. http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=35747.msg570113#msg570113
Also, a slight possability....Andy has asked about bringing Mark to Calif for a weekend and we're going to talk with Mark about that.
