NO Road Glide for 2010
« on: April 13, 2009, 12:59:49 PM »

Directly from my dealer, "HD will NOT offer the Road Glide for 2010"  I asked what about the 2010 SE,, "unknown at this time", if no SE RG for 2010, then we got bike to hang on to. :apple: :carrot: :nervous:

I hate to keep popping everyone's balloons, but the dealers can't even tell you when or if they are getting current year SE's in.  The dealers don't know anything.  Harley is pretty good at keeping things non-public.  I, for one, will not believe anything until Harley actually releases the 2010 lineup.  I'm not saying that they will or will not make a 2010 RG or SERG.  I am only saying that I don't think the dealers have a clue, other than rumors that are passed on to them.

Could chage it up a bit and just rebadge it, didn't the Road Glide originally start from the Tour Glide, then it went away and re appeard as the Road Glide in 1998.

The talk on the Road Glide forum is it will be the first water cooled touring bike. True or not I can't say. I do beleive we will see a water cooled HD soon so this may be it, who knows. :nixweiss: :orange:

One of the reasons HD is so tight lipped regarding the new models is dealer attendance at the summer dealer show.  They want the dealers to come to the summer unveiling which also serves as a motivational meeting to sell product.

I think that everybody is reading too much into the dealers notice that the Road Glide is going away for the 2010 lineup. What I see being stated is the FLTR is going away (along with FLHT, FXSTB, FXCW, FXDL, XL883C), the dealers memo states nothing specifically about the FLTRSE that I have seen or heard. Another consideration is that a new Road Glide model is introduced in 2010, maybe as another Tour Glide. A new Road Glide model could include a tour-pak and lowers, same with the FLTRSE - we all seem likely to buy the tour-paks anyhow so why not offer it as stock. In addition, the FLTRSE is in high demand in 2009 so why get rid of a popular CVO model? The fact is that nobody knows and it is all speculation until the dealers meeting. I am sure that the dealer memo was sent out as a typical Harley marketing gimmick, meant to start discussions and hype and as usual, it is working.

I remember the 1968 Roadrunner with radio delete, rubber floor mats and cop hub caps. it cost less than $3500.00. Today an over loaded 09 Challenger runs nearly $50 grand. We as consumers are at fault. We need so much....We beg for more than we must have. The 77 gold wing came with out a fairing. And I didn't weigh in at 1200 lbs. Vehicle designs seems to devolve over time....the Mustang in the mid seventies, the T Bird in the 60's and Just about every other make gets bigger and porkier....The 09 SERG was a breath of fresh air to me. I applaud HD for getting it right!  :drink:

Not to mention just because it might state something is going away....it doesn't mean something else isn't going to take it's place.  How many times has the FL springer gone away and come back as a different model.  Now we have a crossbones.   :nixweiss:

It may be BS but I heard from my dealer that the road glide was going away and returning as a new Tour Glide Sport. Half road glide and half v-rod.      The truth is   Only Time Will Tell.    And Thats A Fact.     JT

My local dealer confirmed no Road Glide for 2010...along with several other models. To costly to build the Glide, now competing the the Ultra Classic manufacturing costs. Although there's a strong demand for the product, profit as a percent of cost did not make since to build the Glide any longer. MY $0.02 donation...
