Has anyone installed the rear shocks from an 09 FLHX Harley Part no. 54635-09, on an 09 FLHTCUSE4? I was wondering how much it actually lowered the height. When I sit on an 09 FLHX I can have both feet flat on the ground. On my bike I can't.( Maybe the FLHX seat is not as thick or wide )  I will be riding from Simi Valley CA. to Themopolis Wyoming this summer with my wife and luggage and would like to remedy this slight height problem before I leave in late June. I can live with it if I have to,  but if anyone has installed the FLHX shocks and noticed a significant change I would appreciate a reply. Thanks in advance. CAHDBIKER.

I lowered my 2009 FLHTCUSE4 with the shocks before taking delivery. before lowering I was on the balls of my feet after lowering I was flat footed I rode it for about a month and felt that it should be lowered a little more I decided to replace the fork springs with the lower progressive fork springs replacing the shocks lowered it 3/4 of an inch that may be all you need. Repacing the springs took it down about 1 1/4" more that is perfect for me. I am 5'9" with 29 inseam. good luck hopes this helps

I had the HD Lo Profile rear shocks installed along with the front lowering kit before delivery, I am 5'7" with a 31" inseam,, it now sits perfect for me, did not comprimise the ride or handling, hope this helps!

Both, the shocks (+1") and the seat (approx +1") are putting you at a disadvantage on the CUSE vs. the FLHX. Obviously most people like the seat as is, but if you consider changing it, there are "lower" options in the market.

Has anybody replaced the shocks themselves or always had the Dealer replace them? I'm thinking about replacing them myself and wondering how hard it would be?

4 Bolts.....Piece of cake. If you go with "No air" shocks you will have to remove the air line between the shocks themselves. This is done by pushing on the red button at the end of the plastic tube....no cutting required. I learned that on my old scoot.

Follow directions it really is a no brainer.

I also lowered mine before taking delivery. I feel that I might have lost a little bit of the "Ride".
When visiting with another Harley Dealer he said he would have never let me Lower the Bike.
Instead he would have recommended that I have the seat recontored, the 09 seat is "wider" then the older bikes.
Probably would have been more cost effective to do that, as I did both Front and Rear Shocks.

35-40 ft/lbs, with Loctite 242 or 243.   (Though mine were less tight, and had no threadlocker at all from the factory!!)

I have the FLHTCUSE3 08 model Ultra.
I had the rear lowering shocks traded out from my R.K. and installed on new bike when purchased.
I still wanted a closer to the ground feel, although 6ft 1in with a 34 inseam I like to be lower in the saddle.
I had a qualified trim shop take my stock seat, and take down the sides (thigh area), as well as carve out more to lower me out another inch, and install gel pad for wifey & me.
Just got it back last week, so not a lot of time in the saddle, but if really feels the way that I wanted, legs go straight down now and it feels much more relaxed, and did not sacrifice lower clearence on the bike by lowering the front.
Cost to do this and re-attach leather cover without any wrinkles was $120.00. Not to hard to do as I watched him do it, but he had the proper carving tools.
