« on: July 22, 2009, 10:47:07 AM »

Hello Everyone,

Has anyone replaced the stock tire on the 2005 SE Fatboy with a larger tire?  Looking for some info and pics.

Thank you

Aussie has done an excellent job on the wide tire deal.  Check out these two threads:

Thanks everyone,

Aussie your scoot looks great . . . wish it was a little more simple to add the bigger tire.  Do you know if you can go up in mm on the standard SEFB 05 as I have without any mods?

Thanks

I cant remember if there is a 160mm tyre available but if there is I believe it would not work any way as from memory there is only around 1/4 inch between the belt & 150mm tyre so the 160 brings the tyre 5mm closer to the belt leaving approx 1.5mm (1/16") clearance. That is way to close for comfort.

Cheers

My expierence comes from 2 2000 Softails and 1 2001 Dyna. All three of these bikes came stock with 150's. We installed 180's on all them without cutting the frame horns off. The key was centering the wheel between the frame horns and mounting a fender on the the outside of the frame horns as opposed to inside of them. All three bikes used stock swing arms and belts. One bike ran the stock caliper with a small amount of material milled off while the other two went to a aftermarket caliper which was a two piece assembly (thinner at the mounting point). The removal of the frame horns as posted will allow you to run a 200 or the new(er) 210. I have 2 210's on Sport Bikes, they are wide! :2vrolijk_21:

Thank you for the information . . . sounds like I might have a chance of getting the 180 on it.
