Anyone tried or seen these on a bike yet?

The pics in the new catalog look strange.....ok kinda ugly but they may be nicer in person and I would like to see better at night.

Next Year on the CVO's. Harley is going to Composite Cranks to cut cost next year and that will allow them to go with a brighter headlight to be seen on a lonely road with no powerplant operation.

CVO bikes never got HID straight from the factory either. Closest thing to a headlight upgrade was the dual bulb reflector on the SEUCs.

Down range was much farther but I did not meausure since it was set up in a tent. Low beam was the same pattern as HID ( that is what it seemed like) but much brighter. Over all I was very impressed except for the price.

I agree with ya on the price and the styling but when you see them on the new Audi's and Porche's as well as other cars....Man they stick out!

HD wants $525 for a 7" round. Custom Dynamics, $285. Neither tells you the candle power or lumens. Any one know? My two HID's for the Road Glide cost $118. That's a huge difference and I don't see the the LED's give any more light.

If you're willing for purposes of discussion that the LED light is in fact a good light I can think of one reason to consider it over equally good but lesser expensive aftermarket HID kits. At least for Road Kings. And that's the simple install.

The LED light will plug directly in to the existing headlight plug. That's it. Nothin' else. On a Road King shoehorning two ballasts and igniters inside the nacelle makes for cramped quarters.

This is one I won't venture out and try. I will wait until I can put my hand/eyes on them. Too many dollars for experimenting. I have Custom Dynamics on the corners and tail light now and am happy with their quality.

I was on some dark back roads the other night on my ultra and have come to think the lights ****** compared to the lights in my road king. might just be me but they seem to have some dark spots on high beam and low beam with passing lamps dont light up the road very well. I am not much on the looks but its about function and ease of install but i need something better.

I tried the Kuryakyn Led headlight. It was a nice white light and I may have kept it but I also have Kuryakyn led tail light and rear turn signals. When I plugged in the LED headlight the tail light and rear turn signals went out. I put the stock light back in and everything works again. Anybody know whats up with this?

That makes no sense at all. Did you try it without any headlight at all plugged in? If it lost rear lights also when no headlight was plugged in it'd lead to think some headlight monitoring was going on and killing the rear lights was part of the system response.

Aside from being a poor choice of system response I didn't think HD yet monitored the headlight though. If it isn't I've got no idea. Will be curious to read what you find if you eventually track it down though.

When you spoke with Kury tech support did they have a clue?

I have not contacted Kuryakyn support. I will try to get to that later today. I also noticed the security light ( red key) was on with the LED installed. Not sure if that was caused by the headlight or lack of tail light.

I ordered the new Harley LED Headlight yesterday. With tax... $436.35. for the 5 ¾" one. Supposedly can't pick it up until Monday so will try to get it installed and pictures up quickly!

I ordered the Harley LED headlight and passing lights from LSHD today. Hope to have them installed before we leave for western NC mountains on the 16th. I'll let y'all know how they work when I get back.

You need a load equalizer when you go to LED lights they draw less current and it "confuses" (for lack of a better word) the electronic system on your bike. Badlands makes a simple plug in one which should fix the problem

That's for the signals as the part that gets "confused" is the TSSM. There's no similar load monitoring on the headlight.

... however, I did install the new Harley LED lights on my CVO Convertible. I went from the stock bulb that was original equipment and found it was not near enough light.

Went to the HD upgraded bulb and it was much better, however, I wanted more and a concentrated pattern. $:-\$ I then went to the PIAA bulb that was, I believe the 100/110 watt.

Great light but the pattern was all over the place. Sure was visible going down the road though it still did not have the concentrated pattern I was looking for.

Finally pulled the trigger on the new Harley LED... it has everything I was looking for.

Awesome pattern, brighter cleaner light, and I could actually see down the road. Much wider pattern that covers all angles and a concentrated beam way out front. I highly recommend it.

Expensive... but sure makes riding at night a lot easier!

I figured that you would like it a lot. Ive seen some of the streetlights that have been installed in Seattle as test lights. walking from an area that has a halogin to the LED lite area is kind of eerie, but the after you get over that the light color is almost daylight. Expensive, yes but its made to plug in with no problems i take it.

I just installed the new LED passing lights. Very white and bright. Also stupidly expensive!! My Harley LED headlight will be in this week. Also over priced but what the hell. I also just installed Motolights on the calipers. I have been riding Harleys for 40 years and I will never own one again without Motolights!! These things are amazing. I got the 50 watt bulbs and you can see me coming from a half mile away!! I also just ordered a Bright ass tail light.

I was at the local dealership and the parts counter girl said she was surprised at how well they are selling considering the price. She is the person who first pointed it out to me, when I asked about HID lighting. She did say they looked ugly and they were too expensive.

She said the dealership has sold 5 headlights since the new catalog came out......all to baggers.

How does it look on the ConV? I have the same ride and I am ready to pull the trigger on this one but I am worried that it might make the already small headlight look even smaller. I think the 5 3/4" headlight is already a bit to small for the scale of the hertitage styled font end of this bike. A pic would really help here if you get the chance.

I put a set (all 3 lights) on my 2011 CVO Street Glide. They are definitely an improvement in terms of brightness and color. The most noticeable difference is that there is a distinct crisp edge to the lighted area. Riding behind a VW Beetle the entire rear of the car below the back window was lighted, the rear window had no light on it at all.
Distance is not much different, but clarity of what is lighted is a lot different. I did not have ongoing drivers flashing high beams at me, so they are apparently not blinding which is a good thing.
Are they worth $1,000? I suppose that's a question each individual will have to answer for themselves. I'm impressed enough that I'm thinking of putting a set on my '06 Street Glide too.

Well I bit the bullet and picked up the full set for my Ultra Classic. Did the install yesterday and went for a ride tonight. All I can say is WOW! From back roads to highway they are fantastic. Yes they seem over priced but isn't everything from the dealer that way?

Installed the LED headlight and passing lamps on my 2009 FLHTCUSE4 and I love them. Pulled an aftermarket HID kit out. It gave me lots of problems and I honestly feel like the LED is brighter. I also wired my passing lamps to modulate during the day and they work fine. Now I am looking for a "new style" LED bulb to replace the halogen bulbs in my small silver bullets. Kuryakyn only has them in red or amber. If anyone knows where I can get a narrow beam MR11 LED bulb I would appreciate it.

Ha anyone seen both the Custom Dynamic and Harley LED headlight and Passing lamps to see if they are the same brightness? Also I have a 07 SERK with the dual bulb headlight How will that work with the HD LED light ? Will I have to change wiring since it has 2 bulbs? Thanks Billy

No, you'd not have to. The dual bulb housing kits are supplied with a 1-2 pigtail that plugs in to the stock H4 style headlight socket. Remove the pigtail and plug the stock H4 connector in to the new headlight.

I put mine on yesterday along with the LED aux lights. On my 2011 I just had to remove the harness part that had the ballast (?) for the stock HIDs. Then just the one socket plugged right into the new LED light. The lights seems brighter just a bit but much whiter and more vivid. Good call by the wife on the Christmas present.

Those were some great shots, never thought to take pictures of the light patterns. Posted shots of all my lights replaced with LEDs on an Ultra here.

Included one shot here. This is on a pitch black road (only stars out tonight). Normal beam with aux lights on. Tip of windshield visible for visual reference.

I just checked the box mine came in. Totally different package even though it also is a 7". Maybe they were thinking of releasing the two kinds, but decided not to in the end... or perhaps they are going to be comming out with it. Not sure if you got a light made at the very start of the new product line, or one that is the latest and greatest.

Either way, be interesting to see if they do release it.

Edit: Just looked closer between the two... your date shows 12/07/10 and mine is 10/29/10. Perhaps this lends to they are going to release it... I overheard that there a whole new batch of products being announced by HD at the dealership today. Got to see a bit of it too, but didn't pay that close of attention to the stuff.

Nice how long did it take to install? Does it change the appearance of the bike??

Install was simple on the CVO Softail Convertible, it took 5 minutes. I posted a picture of it in the the thread I started in the Convertible forum. I posted the link a few messages back. I think it looks fine although not a typical HD look - for now anyway....

Installation was simple. Mostly plug and play. The only thing that made it a little more work is that you have to change the mount ring since the LED alignment tabs are oriented different that the stock HID. Added about 5 minutes; it was only 4 extra phillips screws. After changing the headlight ring and installing the new bulb and trim ring, I took it to the HD dealer to make sure the lights were aimed correctly. It took them about 5 minutes and they didn't charge anything.

Went to pick up my light, and just before i laid the cash on the counter i looked at the box and saw the picture of the black one. The parts guy hadnt noticed it either, so he looked it up, but couldnt find any info on it. talked to the parts manager and he said it would probly be released after the winter dealer meeting in a few weeks.

Interesting pic from the back side on your image #5. Unit is completely sealed up and totally non-serviceable. It's a good thing the LED should last nearly forever. That's an expensive bulb to replace.

Nice looking install. Does look good on the bike. When I first saw that reflector honestly thought it had a bad case of the uglies. It's growing on me though.

I put a set on my 2008 ultra. When I traded for my 2011.5 Ultra C.V.O. I had the led's removed from the 08 and put on the 11. I can tell you from riding alot at night that the led's are worth every penny. The light quality is unbeatable. The pattern when adjusted correctly will out perform anthing I have used in the past. If you don't ride at night alot don't bother, because I am not impressed with their brightness in daylight. Not bad but not great. At night though UNBEATABLE!!!!

That is why I went with the Kury/Truck Lights - they are VERY visable in the daylight. I don't think they compare quite as well at night but I do not ride much at night. Visability to others is my main concern and when I do ride at night they are 100 times better than what came stock.

Left the Deck-Down Under on Friday nite during Biketoberfest and the guy behind me had a new RG with the LED headlamp. He was couple bike lengths back and staggered, I could see further with his light on dim than I could with mine on bright, I went back and forth bright/dim to check. His just overpowered mine totally. But I still will not give $600 for a headlamp.

Saintnick06 just installed the Harley LED's on his 2013 SEUC Anniversary this weekend. It's been nothing but rain since, so we haven't been able to see how they perform at night yet. We should be able to get some real good comparisons on these at some point, if we get a nice day. I have the Kuryakyn Phase 6 on my '12 SEUC, another friend has the Kuryakyn Phase 7 on his '11.5 SEUC, and another friend has the stock headlamps on his '12 SEUC. Since we all ride together, I assume we'll get a good chance to see how they all perform. Yes, as a group, we are riding in style here in Pittsburgh.

By the way, Saintnick06 put the LED's with the dark lenses on and they look awesome on the Anniversary model. I'll have to remind him to post a pic of them.

Otis, I've put the Truk-Lite (or however the hell they spell it) light in my Road King, the 05 SEEG I used to have and two other bikes that had the HD branded garage door xmitter installed. All worked fine.

If you have the dual bulb halogen headlamp on your bike, you will need this harness to switch the setup from 2 headlamp plugs down to one. If you have the older single bulb setup, then it's plug it in and you are done.

Sorry, but the camera on my phone isn't top notch, so I didn't get the best pictures of your headlamp choices, but here they are. From right to left, we have the Harley Daymaker, Kuryakyn (Trucklite) Phase 6, Kuryakyn (Trucklite) Phase 7, and stock.

IN THE DARK
The 3 of us with LED's rode home in the dark tonight and all 3 are awesome. This was the first time I rode with anyone at night that had the Harley LED's and WOW! are those things bright. Riding in front of him, I really couldn't even see the passing lamps at night. The headlamp is just overpowering. From riding behind him, I could see a very distinct area that was lit up like a studio ready for a photo shoot. That area extended about the same as my Phase 6 lamps, which blows away the stock lights. I was very impressed at how wide the spread of the beam was. We rode the highway home, and there is a concrete barrier between sides of the highway. Riding in the right lane of the 2 lanes on our side of the barrier, he still had that barrier pretty well lit up. Off the right side of the road, I made the decision quickly to watch in his light area for deer on the side of the road. I was fine with my my lights capabilities for lighting up the side of the road before, but now I am realizing how much more is possible. As far as this aspect goes, the Phase 7's are better than my Phase 6's, but still not in the same league with the Harley's. Between the Phase 6 and 7, I think the Phase 6 has the advantage directly in front of the bike, and the Phase 7 has the advantage with light off to the sides...but the Harley lamps win in both categories.

IN THE DAYLIGHT
Phase 6...very distinct lighting that allows you to recognize the bike behind you from a very long distance and hard to miss seeing the bike.
Phase 7...very distinct lighting that allows you to recognize the bike behind you from a very long distance and hard to miss seeing the bike.
Harley...from looking in my rear view mirror, I found that if I looked in one mirror, I could see the lights well and they seemed to have somewhat of a yellow-green tint (but that may change depending on the sunglasses you have on), and if I looked in the other mirror I found the lamps to be almost to the point of disappearing. I'm not sure why there was such a huge difference with such a small change in viewing angle, but I mentioned it to one of the other guys and he confirmed that this is what he saw also. I'm guessing that these lights aren't seen quite as well from angles in the daylight, but I'd have to get a look at him head on coming the other way down the road to solidfy my opinion on that aspect of operation.

My overall opinion, as well as the others' opinions, are that the stock lights shouldn't even be legal after having our LED's. Having the LED's makes for a much more confident and thus more relaxed ride at night.

Update to yesterday's post: Today when I looked in the rear view mirror at the Harley LED's behind me (in daylight), one of the passing lamps would seem like it was out, but then I would look in the other mirror and there it was again. If I looked in my right mirror, it would appear that the left passing lamp was out. I didn't think to mentally register whether I was riding to the right side of the road and him more to the left, which could man that the passing lamp could have been partially obstructed by the headlamp with my view. I guess we'll just need another nice day for me to check it one more time.

I just installed a "Daymaker" HD headlight # 67700040A (Black) on my SERK4 anniversary. I decided to shell out the $465.00 (shipped) based on seeing the light in action. It is by far the best excuse to spend ~ $500.00 on your bike. The increased intensity of light, the spread and color, White/Blue, not dark amber as compared to stock, makes the light highly effective. Also the black looks bad-ass even surrounded by chrome.

The install is very straight forward, took 30 minutes start to finish including alignment. Also I ride with a friend that has the setup with aux lights, during the day the lights are beneficial especially if you run highs. He added the kit that allows head light and aux to be run simultaneously on his 2003 Road King. At night with the LEDs and aux lights on, the road and surroundings is extremely illuminated.

For the added safety, in my mind this is money well spent!

As much as I love my Kuryakyn (Trucklite) Phase 6 LED headlamp and passing lamps, I ordered the Harley versions today, and went with the dark lenses. They told me it will be 2 to 3 weeks before I receive them, but once I do, I guess I'll put the other ones up for sale on here before I hit Ebay with them. I'd rather see them go to a good and caring CVO home. The Kuryakyn's made it so I no longer care if I get home before dark, since they really throw off terrific light, but I decided that I couldn't pass up the deal I got on the Harley lights today. The only thing that makes me wonder if I made the correct decision is that the Kuryakyn lights are much more visible in the daylight, and obviously where I do the majority of my riding. So, they are probably the best overall light, but I just couldn't ignore how bright the Harley's are at night, and you can see them in the daylight...just not as well. Anyway, I'll post the others for sale once I get my new ones.

I swapped out the headlite from my '09 Ultra to the new LED HD lite. I love it. Not quite sure why the pkg comes with an adjustment ring as it seems to me to be no different than the one that my stock lite already had.

If the damn things were not so super expensive, I would pony up for a pair of them to go into my '39 Chevy streetrod. Since I have 2" dropped spindles and smaller tires/wheels on the front versus the back, the (normal halogen sealed beams) that I now have in the stock headlite pods on the fenders do NOT offer much look ahead lite as they have (no adjustability).

Playing around with the extra adjustment ring, I found I could grind down the outer diameter and make it all fit within the '39 headlite shell/ring.......thus I (could) have super headlites with adjustability............except I'm not gonna spend around a $1000 to do it when the car doesn't get that much nite time usage. $:-\$

I noticed that when a friend was installing his, and I assumed that since it fits a lot of years and a lot of bikes, it may be necessary for some of those other bikes, but not ours. That's my guess.

Those aren't the Harley LED's, but they sure do look like they are set up on a very similar concept. However, I paid less for the Harley headlamp - $367.46 and for the passing lamps I paid $269.46. I got mine from a Harley dealer for 30% off and I thought it was a pretty good price considering what they normally charge. I don't know if you'll find too many dealers that will offer the 30% off though. I got mine at a special Thanksgiving Black Friday sale at a local dealer.
