2012 Softail Convertible windshield glare
« on: August 29, 2012, 01:06:47 AM »

I have a 2012 CVO Softail Convertible and at night I get a terrible glare from my console that is right in my line of sight.  Has anyone else had this problem?  I'm 5'8", short I know, but still!  I ordered a 5"visor and it's too small for the CVO and the dealership couldn't find anything that would help.  I don't want to cut the windshield down.  Any ideas or solutions would be appreciated.  THANK!

Yep same here was considering a chrome shade/shroud that hooks to the speedometer top

Yup, Same problem here, I'm 5'9".
I posted the same subject a while back. I ordered the chrome speedo shade from JP, was supposed to fit but did not, too small.
I was thinking of raising the front of the tank about an inch or so to get rid of the glare...anyone ever try that?

I'm glad I'm not the only one but wish their was something to do.  I'm not sure about raising the tank.  I put my hand over it and wouldn't have to cover more than 3/4 to an inch to remove the glare.  I was thinking about maybe tinting it somehow to keep the glare off. I guess I'll just ride in the daylight for a while or use some weak tape to cover it up.  I have the same satin pewter one posted by the way.

Here is the topic showing the speedometer cowl. http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=75296.0
This is the one that is said to be too small and doesn't fit correctly, it doesn't. BUT it can be made to fit just fine. I took the adhesive strip off of it and took the dremel tool to it. I ground the contact edge to an angle that closely matched the speedometer surface, attached my own (thiner) 3-M 2 sided adhesive strip and mounted it. I works perfectly and there is nothing else out there that I have been able to find for this.

This is where to get it.

X2 to Warlock's comments.  The pics on the link he posted are of my bike and it looks and works just fine.

Lever,

I tried that one.  If you look at the pic you will see that it was designed for the old style (straight sided) Speedo gauge, not the new beveled style on our ConV's.

I too tried the one pictured and as everyone else stated it didn't work.  I ordered the one from JP Cycles and hopefully I can make it work.  I'll keep you posted.  Thanks for all the replies.

Thanks for the help on this.  I ordered the one from JP Cycles, and it seems to work.  The reason I say seems is that I'm getting the bike detailed Tuesday and it I will install it then.  However, when I did a test fit, it seemed to work perfectly.  I just dont't like the look, but I'll take safety over looks any day.

I changed windshields to 4 inches higher & noticed the same red line, not so much in the line of view but annoying. I don't think anything can be done far from a bezel maybe. It would be nice to make it go away.

Just a thought but you can buy that film that you can put over your computer screen to prevent glare, have you ever thought about buying a sheet of that and cutting it to fit your speedometer?   :nixweiss:

I got rid of my glare by raising the front of the tank a couple inches.

How did you raise your tank?
did you use a kit or did you make your own brackets?

I used a kit to raise front 2.5 - 2.75" and the rear .5".  Actually helped my bike run a little cooler and helped with wind buffeting as well.
