I installed '07 WideGlide bars on my Springer.....
« on: February 20, 2009, 09:21:19 AM »

I finally got the handlebar install done! :pepper:

The '09 SE hydraulic clutch reservior fit perfectly and everything went on very smooth after that.
I used an '09 SE clutch reservior because the clutch reservior on my '07 didn't have the needed clearance for the new 1 1/4" handlebars.
HD redesigned the hydraulic clutch reservior in '09 and it looks just like the brake reservior now, and has the same clearance.

I ordered Magnum Chromite II cables and lines.
I only needed to extend the internal wires about 4" and soldered and heat shrinked everything!   :2vrolijk_21:

the '07 Wideglide bars have the knurling offset but the SE mini tach covers it up very nicely, you can't notice it unless you look for it between the tach bracket and the risers.

here are a few quick crappy pics I took with my cellphone..
I'll take better ones as soon as I get a warmer day......

looks sweet! :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

I've thought about chrome mini apes but the stock bars are growing on me and I need to look into those 08 risers rheiner used on his 09 for that 1 1/2" extra height.

Thanks for everyone sharing pictures of their mods, like seeing the different styles that make us Springers unique. :coolblue:

I think the handle bars look great. I especially admire any person who can do the complete job themselves. The cables look platinum color, which look gorgeous with chrome bars. :2vrolijk_21:

Randall,

Thanks!

the lines and cables look more "chrome" than the stock HD braided cables.

It was very easy....
I'm really glad that we have a hydraulic clutch, because taking the complete exhaust off to remove the transmission side plate would have been a pain in the a$$ for a cable clutch. but because of the hydraulic clutch, all I had to do was loosen the rear exhaust to get access to the hydraulic line.
I'd say that the biggest "issue" was figuring out how long the new cables and lines needed to be......lol :2vrolijk_21:
and getting the '09 clutch reservior was a HUGE help! ;D

I need to bleed the clutch again, because I didn't bleed the clutch master clyinder before connecting the line, and I'm pretty sure I have a little air in the line because the clutch grabs really low, and I can't find neutral while the motor is running.

I slid the fuel tank back on the frame instead of removing it, by doing it this way, I didn't have to drain the tank. and I had a lot of fun soldering the wiring harness extensions on, no problems at all.
all in all it was a really smooth install! :2vrolijk_21:
