Glad to hear you are alright, and sorry to hear about the bike. Not to worry though either way it can be repaired stock or custom. :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks d00d.

I will have to say that the Traxxion front end ROCKS!!!

We can always discuss this more around the campfire this weekend. Maybe I can bring some grease pencils for fun.

Chuck,
Glad to hear that you're okay...the bike can be fixed and made to look new again...it's a little more difficult with us skin and bone folks.  As far as custom or stock....even though it may take you longer to get the CVO tins from the MoCo, then to get primed tins and then get a custom job, I'd go with the CVO "stock" paint job.  Reason is, if you get a custom paint job, now what you have is an 07 Ultra with a custom paint job, and just a little round thingy on your leather tour pak to say it's a CVO, but if you get the "stock" tins again, you still have a complete factory-looking CVO.  Plus now you have the chance to see the error of your ways and get the "right" '07 CVO color.  :P  (I wonder what that might be?  ::) ) I'd wait the extra time and get the CVO tins...but that's just me. ;)
Cheers :2vrolijk_21:,

That's a valid point Chuck, you could get the right color this time!

And order 2008 tins. That would automatically make it worth more in 2015.

I still think the red is the fastest and therefore best 2007 color besides, doing a color change would require replacing everything and that would cost me a good bit more since some of the pieces (5) are OK.

Chief,

First, I am glad you "walked away".  Bikes come and bikes go.  Sheet metal and fiberglass can be repaired &/or replaced.  Glad you were not hurt.

IMO, I would go with the custom paint.  Like someone else said "then you will have a one of a kind not one of 2000".
Think about it;  you could kinda stick with a CVO theme if you want -- just better paint and a design that will really grab everyone's attention.
I am not really sure that original HD painted parts will help maintain the value compared to custom paint....in the short term anyway.
Now when the bike is 50 or 60 years old, the original paint would really increase the value, but I don't think you would hurt the value if you have a really nice custom paint job in the short term.  Just my opinion.

Look at it this way... When you first saw your bike you fell in love w/the color, and if not for this unfortunate accident you wouldn't consider changing it so why consider now. :nixweiss: Put it back like it was when you first saw it and had to have it. :2vrolijk_21:

Chuck...saw a red 07 with 250 miles on it go out the door at the local dealership for 34K a couple of weeks ago...

My personal opinion is that the 06/07 models will remain "unique" because of the leather TP.  Whether one likes it or not, it will remain unique to those two model years, and I find more people like it than not.  Personally, I think the red paint on the 07 is very nice...would have been my choice in 07.  If my bike was in your bike's shoes, it would want the stock tins back on it...

Mostly, I'm just glad to hear that you came away without injury, and the bike has only cosmetic issues...

Bring the Sharpies and we'll fix her up... ;D

Glad your ok!!

I think there would be buyers that would like a good tasteful custom paint job. But like you said you have several pieces that are still OK, as long as the paint matched up close enough, even if you get the stock paint, due to slight differences in the manufacturing process you might be able to see a difference in the new paint, so you might need to paint everything anyway. Even if it did drop the price, how much could it drop if you had a really nice paint job? plus while you ridding it, the bike would be a one of a kind, that you designed, tough choice!

Ummmm, there are options.  First off the most important thing is that you're ok.  So glad to read that you are.

After that the fun can begin.  CVO paint or custom paint is irrelevant in end.  It's Chuck's paint.  So the rest (opionions and otherwise) don't really matter.

However....  Here's at least one option to consider that seems within the budget and would allow starting from scratch.  A complete Ultra paint set (tour pak and all) for $5600 is what's currently posted.  This particular link even shows a set that has the benefit of being (red and) CVO-esque to boot.

This company starts with OE tins and offers a lot of paint schemes.  You can tinker a bit too.  It's at least worth looking at.

Glad you're ok Chuck.

Then the real question is in seven or eight years, how much more is a CVO in stock paint worth compared to a CVO with custom paint? Especially the paint design of the 2007s which we all know isn't anything really to get excited about.

:indian_chief:

You pose a good question, and in looking at it strictly as a cost/benefit for the CVO tins vs other tins, there may not be a great difference in that timeframe.  If it were me, I'd think hard about taking the insurance $$ and buying some used tins and bags and having them painted up nice -- and you will have the extra left over for whatever (read:  CHROME).

Glad you're OK!!!
