looking for an educated guess on what this will cost
« on: December 31, 2008, 09:27:33 PM »

Ok, I think I have a plan with my 110 while it is getting the 905 enhancement.
I requested the dealer to give me the cost to do the following.
1. send warranty (new) heads to T-man to have them ported and finished (valves, guides, springs) r&r heads is warranty
2. send jugs to T-man and have new pistons fitted to jugs (new forged pistons with 10.5 CR)
3. new harley lifters  (preventative measure)
4. T-Man's 590 cams and torrington bearings installed (check crank runout at this time) no warranty issue here
5. new pushrods, to be determined by T-Man
6. have put back on Dyno and tuned

considering a small part of this is warranty work, what do you expect the dealer to come back to me with this build?

I should run a pool to see who ends up with the closest correct answer.

got to come up with a prize or something.

I really have a very little idea what the dealer will tell me but in round numbers on some things I have an estimate in my head for some parts'

headwork $1000.00
pistons     $400.00
cams        $400.00
torrington bearings ?
lifters ?  400.00?
dyno tune $300.00 - $400.00
pushrods ?
labor to hone cylinders to pistons $150.00
dealer labor hrs? cost?

Including labor (assuming $85/hr) bottom line should come in just shy of $4k - - - say $3,950

I really have a very little idea what the dealer will tell me but in round numbers on some things I have an estimate in my head for some parts'

headwork $1000.00  Shouldn't cost that much
pistons     $400.00   About right
cams        $400.00   About right for chain drive cams
torrington bearings ?Minimal, not even worth adding in. Same for Gaskets
lifters ?  400.00?      About $200-$300 depending on brand
dyno tune $300.00 - $400.00 Sounds cheap for a full SERT tune
pushrods ?               About $150
labor to hone cylinders to pistons $150.00 OK
dealer labor hrs? cost? Prolly around $800-a grand

What about the SE camplate? The SE Comp Sprocket? SE Forged Rocker Supports?

So all in all, about $3500-$4000. Add the above additional items for under a grand more. ;)

Good luck with your build!!! :2vrolijk_21:

HeHe!!! Oh yeah, what about Roller Rockers too? Another $450! ;D :2vrolijk_21:

There all just stronger, closer tolerance built parts. The camplate buys you billet instead of cast and has bronze bushings for the cams, instead of tolerance fit in the plate itself. SE Comp Sprocket will handle 7x more torque than stock and I'm convinced it's a good investment in these big in motors. ;)

If I cannot get my arms around the build I will just abandon and tell them to fix and save my money for a Jims 131.
I probably can get a Jims build done and installed for about 9K and have someone else on the hook with problems.

If I follow my buddy Howie, I will have about 5-6k in it no warranty and a weak bottom end. add another 2K to beef up bottom end and I will have 7-8K in it
and be rebuilding anyway in another 13K miles?

not much of a stomach for that sequence.

Not doing the build completely right the first time is not what really scares me, (I can always blame myself on that one).

What really scares me is doing the build the right way the first time and ending in the same spot!

Buy your Jim's from Jenni at Tri-County and plop in yourself... Piece of cake.. I'll even send you a free base map that runs real decent.

Don't rework the heads. If you think you don't want to spend the money on something that will give you problems down the road (AKA 110) Go with a set of cams lifters and pushrods and you will be loving life. Save you money for the Jims motor down the road. You will have a bike that will run good but not good enough to hurt the bottom end!!!!!

You must be bored. You had to read back 19 posts to even find it.

You've heard worse in your years in the firehouse.

Speaking of which, you're a fireman, how could you put me in jail anyway ?

Happy New Year DAWG  ;)

All this stirring and I dont even have a paddle in the water.

If you do send the heads off get rid of the auto compression releases.   You have been warned.

pushrods 150 - 200
Labor 8- 10 hours top end.
Throttlebody .. what are you doing with the throttlebody want to send that too to TMan have him match it to the headwork :)
Don't forget the larger injectors .. 4.89 instead of your 3.91's.

Headwork
Pistons
Cams
torringtons
lifters  240 - 260 for HD
Pushrods
Gaskets
Injectors

Dont need roller rockers under 600 lift and besides too noisy for a cruiser :)

If being an asshole were a crime, I'd have been locked up years ago  ;)

2008- I retired (good) for being disabled (bad) I recovered the family property on Sebago Lake (fantastic) We all lost a ton of money in the stockmarket (bad) I made some new friends from this site (good)

2009 - Wait and see. Probably good and bad like every other year of my life.
