Pulled my fairing apart yesterday because it was shaking again... turns out the big black fairing bracket broke, and the speaker bracket on the same side did again as well.

Stealer wanted $70 for the big bracket, $12 for the small silver one.

I have had to replace these small ones twice now.. I took them to a welder this time instead!

Welder had a hard time with the big one, but said that the small one went back together great.

I won't be buying anymore of those ones... and everything internal will be getting welded from now on.

Cost went from $100 to $20, and it may last longer now!!!

I've had the left side only break on mine, first the upper leg of the main bracket where the inner fairing attaches, and most recently the lower side (speaker) bracket.  Repaired the main bracket with an "L" shaped piece that's probably stronger by itself than all the other braces and brackets put together.  I haven't come up with a better brace for the bracket to speaker yet, but if this replacement doesn't hold up I'll be fabricating something.  And when this brace breaks, the fairing does shake just as bad as it did when the main bracket failed.  I wouldn't leave it broken or just leave it out like some intimated earlier in this thread.  Plastic will crack and break if allowed to flex that much.

Makes you real happy to know that so many of these things break that the local dealers keep them in stock and know exactly what to hand you as soon as you walk in muttering about speaker braces.  Another known issue that Harley just continues to let the customer pay to repair (and repair, and repair).  According to the part number, it's a 96 design that's been revised twice (B suffix).  I'm not certain, but I'm guessing the two revisions weren't to strengthen the part.

Hey Jerry, almost everyone I ride with had had to 'beef-up' those brackets.....the only thing wrong with making 'um stronger is adding weight to the upper fairing which is going in the wrong direction for a good handling bike.  Wish someone would produce a replacement out of lighter weight but stronger material.  :) spyder

I had the 'ears' on both of mine break off at the bend. Instead of new parts, I made new ears out of heavy "L" brackets and pop riveted them to the main part of the brackets. Never broke again. That one cost me about $3.00 to fix.

It wasn't the prettiest, but it worked fine. Plus, you don't have to pull the brackets, and radio, out to do it.

I made the two mini "L's", drilled them for the 1/4" bolt, bolted them in place, clamped them to the brackets in the proper place and finally drilled and riveted them in place.

I Just thought I would offer a more cosmetically pleasing solution to the uper main fairing bracket breaks.

There is a bracket sold by harley that is a perfect fit repair part for these breaks.

XM Antenna Bracket P/N 76456-06  (clutch side)

NAV Antenna Bracket P/N 76316-06 (Throtle side)

Drill two holes,  and pop rivet or thread two factory screws.

Factory looking solution, perfect alignment, stronger than new,  that WORKS for cheap .....

Hope this is of value .....

Just got off the phone with Steve Drane HD in Victoria...the newest part numbers now end with a 'c'..he was not sure what, if any improvement there is.  But, they are listed for the CVO, not the regular Batwing. I have a set on order @ $14.xx each. Installed a Hogtunes Bid Ultra Kit...easy install and a BIG improvement in sound
