YELLOW EAGLE IN SO CAL!!! FINALLY
« on: October 03, 2008, 09:01:05 PM »

Firstly, Thanks to all for the great information on this site.  It's a great on line community!!  Sold my beloved '04 Road Glide to get a good price an have waited... and waited..., you know how it is.  Soooooo,  finally,  here it is in yellow.  Let the debate over best color begin in earnest!

Are you sure this does not make my (her) "posterior" look too big?

Pictures may say 1000 words but you have to see the metal flake in person.  I thought the paint was excellent!!

I don't think there is a bad color choice to be made in either the 09 SERG's or SEUC's...  The best year yet for graphics and color choices...  Your yellow eagle looks great!   :2vrolijk_21:

I'm really liking the Yellow.  It is an attention grabber for sure.  The dealer where I got my bike has one coming in soon.  I hope I can see it in person.  These bikes sure don't sit around long.

AK,  That's a lot of work for a short time.  I've seen the silver - - very nice!  When you put on the Klock Werks, did you reuse the rubber gasket from the bike?  Have not taken mine off yet but have the 12" KW.  Thanks.  GK

Congratulations! The bike looks awesome. I went back and forth between yellow and orange, but when you walk into a dealer and there is an orange one on the floor, well...you just gotta pull the trigger!!

Happy riding!

Congratulations on your new yellow SERG, it looks absolutely great. I am looking forward to seeing one in person soon. Like the other 09' SERG colors, I am sure that pictures can't do it justice and I bet it really comes to life in the sunshine...enjoy!

I agree, you can't go wrong with any color SERG this year, all are a home run!!!  Yellow is a great color,  I love how the Eagle is like a whitish color.  Can you take a pic of the front fender looking down on it?   Enjoy and ride safe!

2 things....  No the original windshield gassket will not work on the KW or anything else for that matter!  You will have to get a regular RG gasket.

....  BIGGS HD in San Marcos, Ca has a yellow one with no one's name on it.  MikeD, The eagle on the yellow is Gold just like the rest of the stripes.  And it goes really well with the yellow.  On the front fender the tip of the point is gold and starts to fade to the yellow with the gold stripes going aft.  It is more pronounced than on the silver one.  The silver stripe with the ghost feathers is more prominent.  For yellow it is extremely attractive...Hell, I might have to buy a second one....... :-*

Sorry but I have differ with you I have the stock gasket on with my 8"KW Now because of the different curve in the front it shows alittle bit more of the gasket then I'd like but it did fit!

I too think all three colors are very good.

I did not like orange when I saw the pictures.  Then in person in the dealership it was looking pretty good.  Then when I saw the orange out side in the FL sun, it was fantastic.

Silver was the only color I liked in pictures, but in the sun, well they are all fantastic

Don (iselbulls) is correct.  The original gasket comes off the black deflector and should really must be used with a new wind shield.  The trick is the correct mounting procedure specific in the shop manual.  Essentially, you must affix the screws washers and rubber walnuts to the windshield first.  It then takes two sets of hands to place the winshield with hadware into the holes and tighten.  There's a much better description in the manual....  This does leave a small gap in the center where the gasket is exposed but works fine.  I can post pics of this tomorrow....

Don, it would be great to get photos of the three colors together...   I'm heading from Santa Monica to Fresno then Oakhurst for a tribute ride this weedend.  Any chance that's close enough??

One more last chance.  BTW, some have complained about the paint / orange peal.  None here.  Looks very custom and smooth.  Not a Junior Johnson job ($110k) but very nice.

Nice shots, looks great. :2vrolijk_21: Might just be the screen on the laptop, but to me that yellow doesn't look as bright a yellow that is on the . :nixweiss: Would like to see a picture of those two bikes together.

Hi Jim,  (did I get that right?),  No, if you're referring to the yellow SEEG2 from '05, the SERG is not as bright.  This seems slightly more gold and is very close to the 07 yellow.

Hi Don,

The 12"KW is great for around town and short trips.  I have the light tint.  It does look great.  I'm 5'11".  Did about 750 miles this past weekend with over 500 on the freeway at 70+ mph.  KW is barely adequate at highway speed.  Lot of air going right past your ears but I do wear ear plugs when I wear a half helmet so it was bearable.  I would probably try a 12" or so Clearview for another trip like that.  So, it depends on the riding you're doing.  I understand the Clearview comes with its own mounting hardware etc.  If so, it would be easy to swap one out for trips and would probably be ideal.

That 12" KW sure is a good looking shield.  Just does not look like it would work for me, as I am 6'1".

Hi Dave,

At 6'1", the KW would be a bad choice, even for around town.  I've read they're coming out with a taller model but no mention on the KW web site....

Start the poll why don't you.  I'd love yours, I dress it with Jack Daniels bling, it would go great against the yellow. :-* :-* :-*

I'm really liking the Yellow.  It is an attention grabber for sure.  The dealer where I got my bike has one coming in soon.  I hope I can see it in person.  These bikes sure don't sit around long.
I just wish they sold then in the UK

Hey Greg, congratulations.  Your bike looks great.  I loved what you did to your previous Road Glide to cusomize it in a minimilist way.  I'm looking forward to seeing what you've got planned for your new ride. Your color combination is striking...there's now way in hell that bike will ever get lost in a sea of Harleys.  How do you like the handling and performance so far?

Thank you, Sierramadre!  I loved that black RG but the new frame and updates really make a difference.  The handling of the SERG is much improved (not that there was anything wrong, before).  It feels planted in the turns and very stable but nimble, for such a heavy bike.  I wish it did not weigh so much (power to weight ratio)  but it does move.  I've recored the stock exhaust and removed the cat.  Runs cooler with more power.  My heavy breather arrives Monday and Tuesday it goes in for dyno tune with a SERT like program that HD is not supposed to be able to detect.  I'm a Jim Kerr disciple, esp. in the power dept.

Waiting on the new lindbar and may do some pin stripping.  I have a tour pak coming, they say.  I ordered it more than two months ago!   Gardiner-Westcott has a new stainless steel / chrome fastener set that will go on. Tune trapper antenna and Hawg tunes system.  WTS fitted a perfect curved licence frame from Kuryakyn.  All that should keep me busy for a while.  I'm happy with the seat and ergonomics though I liked your Badlander.  Maybe I'll do a rider's backrest for the long trips....

How is yours?  I've only seen one silver in person and thought it was beautiful.  Pictures do not do it justice!  I know you did the Super SERT and slip on Rineharts and were not too pleased with the paint.  I could not help but smile about your SE Ultra side cover.  My paint is great and so are the others I've seen in person, so very sorry about that.  Have you tried a color sand?  Enjoy!!  Maybe some day we'll get to ride them together....

Hey Greg what kind of tune are you using?    BLW

I have a service guy at the local dealer who has done very well for me.  The dealer is also very involved in racing.  They use something like the SERT but won't say exactly what it is.  I think it's a modified SERT.  They say same result but not traceable to void warranty.   We'll see....  I'll post numbers next week.  Frankly, with the fullsac cores and no cat, the SERG runs great and not too loud.  If it had not been for the CVO Harley folks, I'd be happy now!   :huepfenjump3:    :huepfenjump3:    :huepfenjump3:

Your mods sound great.  I may copy you with the Kurayakyn curved license plate frame.  That's a little detail that could probably make a huge difference on the appearance of the rear fender.

Your riding experience sounds like mine.  It's a fun, firm ride and easier to manage than you'd imagine considering the weight. My badlander seat is nice from an appearance standpoint but not very comfortable on a long ride.  I did some color sanding which helped the paint appearance immensely.  I'm going to put the Rinehart True Dual System on this winter (as soon as its available) and the chooped tour pack.  I was thinking about The Heavy Breather as well.  I really like the way it looks.  I'm trying to arrange a trip out to CA in February and doing a ride from San Diego to SF.  If that happens, I'll send you a note and maybe we can get together for a ride

Please do on the Kuryakyn.  I still have a credit at my dealer and have asked them to get me one.  There's  a good thread on the true dual set up.   http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=29361.0  Most of the "authorities" do not recommend it unless you've had your heads done, etc.  They do look great but I like the look of the stock exhaust and it sounds great since I did the cat and cores.

Definitely let me know if you're out this way!!  We'll get to ride and take some pics.

Not anymore, I bought it. I tried 2 other dealers that had yellow ones in stock. Skip4Dice wanted $2,500 over, I said no way, it was gone the next day. Laidlaws had one.(where I bought my last bike) I drove down there and they wouldn't budge at $4,000. over MSRP. I drove to Bigg's & paid MSRP. I still cant stop smiling, I love this bike.
