Anyone done cams or heads on the 110
« on: May 26, 2010, 10:31:54 PM »

If not I may be the first. If anyone has, what did you do? I have an 08 Street Glide with a 103 Big Bore kit with Andrews 54 H cams and head porting by Bean.  The performance is outstanding with 96 HP and 119 Tq. I called Bean today to ask his advice on cams for my SE Fat Bob as he helped me with my selection on the SG. He was tied up so I'll call again tomorrow. In the mean time does anyone have a cam they like for the 110 engine? Don't know if the Andrews 54H would work as well with the 110 as it has with the 103. Opinions?

Same cam again! The Andrews 54 is a great cam in the 110 also. Makes the torque where you need it on the street.

I believe Steve at Fullsac has mentioned that the Andrews 54 is his favourite as well.

Here's a link to the Fueling 574.  Cams, tuner and Fullsac baffles........breaks the 100 ft. lbs. tq. at 2700 rpm (no head work)......talk about usable power on the street!   http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=44545.0

Scotty, that's impressive...I wasn't considering the cams for my SEUC, but you've got me wondering.  What does all this do to the warranty?

The powertrain portion of the warranty goes "poof" the instant you do this, as does the emission system warranty.  Folks who find warranty coverage to be of prime importance need to leave the internals of their engines alone.  The only internal mods that don't instantly void the warranty are those street legal kits sold by H-D, like the 103 or 110 street legal kits for the TC96 engines.

That's pretty much what I expected.  I'm sure that's sound advise.  It's not so much that the warranty is of prime importance to me as the fact that I'm helpless when it comes to wrenching on motorcycles.  I would dearly love to know more and be able to work on my own...for now, I'm at the mercy of my local MOCO shop so warranty does have some value to me.  Maybe I'll try the cams when the warranty runs out... :2vrolijk_21:

You forgot to mention you have a damn nice looking bike. I love that color scheme. I could have bought that bike (one like it I mean) last year but with two bikes in the garage already it wasn't to be.

The biggest change I noticed after a cam upgrade to my 110 engine was the increased exhaust noise. I also went to true duals at the same time but the real db increase came from the cams. I would do the upgrade again for the increased performance I wanted.

I noticed my exhaust got louder after I started to pull the trailer. Thunder Header bouncing off the front of the trailer. :huepfenlol2:

Thanks for the positive comment Gary. Now if it would quit raining here in the
Great Northwest I could get a little riding in. I have only put about 800 miles on it since
Nov. when we did the engine. Headed to Reno on June 19th so that should be fun.

Not necessarily Jerry.  It depends on the dealership.  The Magnusson Moss Warranty Act basically says that the failure has to be directly related in order for them to void the warranty.  If a dealership is following the letter of intent in the warranty act, then they have to be able to show that the modification was/is the reason for the failure.   I've had a number of motor (stator, cam chain tensioners, etc.) issues taken care of on warranty without the mods to the motor ever becoming an issue.....not even a discussion about it.  They even replaced my tranny mainshaft under extended warranty on a bike that had 66k miles and I was third owner pulling a Bushtec. :2vrolijk_21:

Simple engine mods (cams, A/C, tuner, exhaust) just don't seem to be much of an issue with the dealerships here in Nor Cal.  You start boring, doing head work to the max, bumping compression way up, etc. that's when it starts becoming an issue out here. :nixweiss:

Here is one with Woods TW5-6 and my heads. This is conservative compression 9.8/1 build with stock headpipes and fullsack pipes. This is owner tuned and the guy is very sharp. A FatCat and Big Bore baffle would pick up another 5+hp but the low end would take a hit for that. 114/123 SAE now. Owner reports more quiet than stock.
Dyno before heads and cam is shown too

Not a 110", but we recently recieved info on a 106" ,and a 107" that we set up for our clients.
The 106" showed 121/121, and the 107" was 125/128.
