I have a question for the other 2014 CVO owners. I've had two CVOs prior to this one - a 2008 FXSTSSE2 and a 2011 FLTRUSE and both had the nice (heavier) chrome metal transmission side cover with a bleeder on it. Two things I've noticed on my new 2014 FLHRSE6 - first, the transmission side cover is chrome where from all the pics I've seen on Harley's site and on the forums of the new CVO Road King show a black cover. Second, I noticed there was no bleeder installed on the cover.

Tapping on that cover made a tinny sound, not a solid metal sound like on the older bikes. It turns out it's just a tin cover (just two of the side cover bolts hold it in place) that covers the real unfinished cover with the bleeder on it.

I see the other covers are black but I can't tell if there is a bleeder in place on them. Can you guys let me know if you have the same type of thin cover in place with no bleeder showing?

Actually that change was made for 2013, as shown in the attachment below taken from the 2013 New Model Tech Info.  The outer cover should match the covers for the engine, ie. chrome for chrome, black for black.

Thanks Jerry.  That helps.  Now I just wonder why mine is chrome while every other one I've seen is black.  I guess it's just another way to help pick my bike out of the crowd...

Have seen two bikes with that cover mismatched in production.  Yours would be three.

If you want the black cover that's supposed to be on the CVO Road King, have your dealer verify with the parts catalog (I already have) that the bike is supposed to have the black part, then replace yours with the correct black part.  They can submit a misbuilt unit claim with Harley to cover their costs, but you shouldn't be responsible for anything.

Wow.  You guys know your beer at least as well as your bikes.  Very observant.  Thanks for the responses.  Seriously, you guys are definitely a fun crowd and I appreciate that.

And thanks again Jerry for the useful information.  By the way where did you find that New Model Tech Info pic?  Is that insider stuff or is that out there somewhere?  I still have the 2010 Touring service manual that I used with my 2011, I guess I need to get the new 2014 manual along with the CVO supplement.
