Day 5----No wireless here at the Lodge, they are off the grid, so posted the next day. Got up, raining. Packed in the rain. Rode 6 hrs in the rain. I hate the work that rain creates. Glad I had my FXRG leather coat and Gerbings. Dry and warm. The clouds parted and started clearing as I left Fort Nelson at 1:00. As far as I’m concerned, this is the start of the Alaska Highway. It is beautiful. Lots of gentle twisties along lakes, rivers and mountains. Something different around each bend. This is also where I started to see “stuff”. Lots of bear, moose, goats, deer, buffalo. The moose and bear didn’t like my Fullsacs. They scampered to the woods before I could get some good pictures.
Staying at Northern Rockies Lodge on Mucho Lake---gorgeous! Laird Hotsprings is 35 mi. up the road from here. My toughest decision today was whether to check in, unpack and drive up there this evening for a dip or wait and stop on my way past in the morning. I couldn’t decide, so I’ll do both. It was really relaxing after a long cold day in the rain.
I’m really having a hard time with the high sun and the two hr time difference. I usually get up at 5 am, which is 3 am here. And it’s still dark, also the gas stations aren’t open that early even if I ride a couple of hours before I need gas. So I lay in bed, waiting.
