Final assembly of my bike has started.

What is done is:
Frame stripped and powdercoated black, tins at the painter, will be silverflake and black scallops.
Springer raked 4 degrees, makes a huge difference, and will improve handling since I will lower the rear aprox 2".
Heartland kit 200 will be mounted, extended foot controls. All nut and bolts chromed. Engine mounts and fender mounts, caliper mounts and other stuff either powdercoated black or chromed. I was going with the V&H big radius 2-1, but I have now ordered V&H Short shots chrome. I think it will go better with the general look of this bike.
Sorry for poor quality pic, will upload better pics as the build continues.
The aim is to have the bike ready before march 1st.

Hi Harpoon,

Nice project! You are ahead of me on my FXSTSSE3, pretty much the same transfo planned (Heartland, lowering rear, V&H 2-2) except that I was not thinking of changing the fork incidence. What lowering kit are you using? Keep up posting progress pictures!

Hi there!

I will keep You up to date. The lowering kit will probably be something from progressive and probably the 422 series, but I am still deciding.

Regarding the lowering kit I was also looking for the 422 Serie but I was told by my local dealer that a simple kit such as longer bolts would do exactly the same job at a quarter of the full system price. What do you think ?

I know people who have the extensions You mention, and they seem to do the trick. And as You say the cost is less. What I am looking for is not just the lowering of the bike, but also a better shock such as the 422 compared to OEM. But I might go this way depending on the total cost of the build, money seem to dissappear quickly when doing this kind of mods....

Harpoon....how did you accomplish the rake change on the bike?  I've always thought that the Springers could use a bit more rake and yours now looks just about right.

Took a couple of pictures of the tins, back from painter. The bike is coming together, and will be finished in a couple of weeks.

My friend who is actually doing the build for me, was the one who suggested going with classic scallops.

Harpoon....how did you accomplish the rake change on the bike?  I've always thought that the Springers could use a bit more rake and yours now looks just about right.

The Frame Head is reconfigured, this is a much better option than changing out the triple trees. When changing rake on a bike, you really have to do the math to make sure You have a ridable bike after the rake. Since I´m having the bike lowered in the rear it will be just about right, and it sure looks better.

This is also the main reason why the frame was stripped and powdercoated, if I hadn´t had work done on the frame head, I might as well have left the frame as it was.

Hello Harpoon!

Thanks for your pics. Very tasty choices, nice look, looking forward to discovering the overall finished bike.

Will you put turn signals? If yes what brand/model have you selected?

Have a good week-end     Laurent

Laurent!
I will use the Kellerman black turnsignals, the type with integrated Led brakelight for the rear lights. I have seen them on another bike and they are really bright.

A few weeks then she will be ready for the road.... How is your build coming along?

Went to the shop today to look at the progress of my bike. Had my camera with me and took some pictures of the progress. Bike is not lowered yet, and the final fitting of all parts and exhaust along with alot of wiring is yet to be done.

looks good  :2vrolijk_21: Nice job!

What brand/model of solo seat have you fitted? If it is the Heartland solo seat, how have you managed to make it fit (perfectly as seen on your pic) to your bike?

TIA for your feedback

Hi Laurent!

The seat I have is the heartland soloseat as it comes with the 200mm kit for softails. Remember that my bike is the 2008 CVO springer, and it came with 200mm rear tire. I believe that Your bike has a 240mm tire correct? The rear part of the bike is most likely wider and the fender probably sits further back and that´s why Your seat has a small gap between the tank console and the front of the seat.

We also made a bracket that holds down the rear of the seat against the fender to make it sit tight on the fender. (Not attached in the pics.)
Hope I gave You somewhat of an answer.

Got it, you're right, I've just missed the slight difference between the two model  :-[ I'll have to modify the HL solo seat to fit it.

Thanks for your quick feedback.

My project is coming to an end. I took some more pics to share. Heat shields are not mounted on the pipes yet, some elctrical still to wire. Sometime next week the bike will start, and then it´s off to the Dyno to have it dialed in.

I had a custom mount made for the saddlebag, the mount will detach with three bolts, and an extra licenseplateholder mounts when I want to cruise without the bag. The bar and holder is to be powdercoated black.

Thanks Jester!
I will post the Dynoresults with chart as soon as I have had it dynoed. I am kind of curious about the numbers myself, the 257 cams and highcomp pistons should add a bit. Hoping for somewhere around 100hp, if it is less I don´t mind. I wouldn´t have done theese mods to the engine myself, but the goodies where put in on delivery from the dealer when the original owner bought it.

The bike is finally finished, but winter is still around. We have aprox 50cm of snow here, normally riding season begins in a couple of weeks, but who knows this year....

Let me know what You think, I hope I will be happy with this one.
