I wouldn't trade or sell my fxr3 for anything...it rocks...i can rail corners..it's light and flickable..and thats coming from a 22 year motocross veteran...im 5'4"...bike fits like a glove...rides like a dream...as far as looks..can we say "$30,000 custom show bike look" No doubt'....as far as being rare....well i'd say.....they only made 600 green flame ones(540 usa..60 overseas..from what ive been told)..and 300 blue ones(270 usa..30 overseas)their msrp was $17,995...cheap by todays standards....plus it was produced in the first year(1999) of the CVO...as far as a collector..i'd say that's one i'd want in my collection!..as far as an owner..i'm proud to own it, ride it, show it,look at it ( EYE CANDY )and talk about it...and "it" being my FXR3!

I have detatchable slant H-D saddlebags w/ yoke & supports,,detatchable H-D supersport windshield,,,leather front fork bag,,,SE slip-ons,,,,(doing air and carb this winter),,,the coolest add-on was the frenched-look headlight trim H-D sells 29 bucks,,,and wow what a difference!!! custom bike look,,,,,,i use the bags and windshield when needed,,,it looks custom touring when on and custom hot rod when off,,,ill stick with the mid controls,,,i m 5'4" so im not cramped,,,and you can handle the bike way better,,plus its much better as far as balance goes, and stopping as well,,,,,,did your power improve alot with the high flow air cleaner???

my bike stock was 55hp on the dyno....so at 67hp with them two add-ons thats over a 20% increase in hp !!!!.....i also plan on doing a SE ignition, SE coil, and perfomance plugs & wires,,,,,and a thunderslide carb kit(or a dyno jet kit...anyone know what the differences would be besides double in price ???),,,,im sure down the road in the future ill be looking at cams,,,,,i also plan on doing braided clutch and throttle lines,,but i see H-D does't offer specifically for my bike,,,,do you or anyone out there know if any of the other models lines will work?

By the way what did you pay for your fxr3 ?,,,,i paid $18,000 with 3600 miles on it,,, it came with the bags and windshield,,i bought it june 3rd of this year from www.lacrosseharley.com ( just down the street from me),,,a pic of my bike is still on their web site under pre-owned.

according to the H-D web site there are a number of different clutch/throttle cable kits. i would wait until winter and pull the cables and take them to your dealer. they can then take all the proper measurements and get you the correct braided cables

i forgot to mention i also added the thunderslide kit since i had to rejet anyway....from what i understand it provides better throttle response when going to more aggressive mods to engine.......but to be honest i am not sure if it matters or not......i bought mine in november off ebay for 13k...........had 3k miles and stock pipes..windshield,tbag and taller sissy bar..also already had forward controls......tank did have a small scratch and dent but i feel verrrrrrry lucky to have bought it at that price...........

to be quite honest i am not sure why i got ita a for so cheap...the guy is a orthodontist and i guess he just wanted a quick sale....he also has a electroglide and he knew everything about the cvos....bike does have a few minor dings but mostly noticable to me..........the guy was super nice but i know that is not why he sold it low.........like i said......i just plain got lucky..for a change...i am trying to keep everything i can find on fxrs...do you happen to know of anyone with a original bill of sale..........he said he paid 22k but was unable to find paperwork since his last move................thx

I met the original owner at my dealer,,he said he paid 18k new for my bike (which is msrp,,he bought it from a dealership not a stealership!),,,,when i told him i paid 18k after being 4 years old,,,he just shook his head and said "man i never should have parted with it",,,,,,alot of dealers seem to add on like 20% to the msrp(another topic here!)...so i can see where he paid 22k,,,,in fact i heard some stealerships got 27k for this same bike,,thats 50% mark up,,,,holy SH"$"T batman!!!

Say, can an FXR4 guy join in?

I've had mine since 2000.  Got forward controls (DS), Mikuni flatside, SE11 cam, bub stubbies, SE ignition, plugs, etc., braded cables all around (Barnett), tall sissy (for t-bag), custom seat (Rich's), deuce bars (sure beats the drag bars), windvest, almost 15k miles, looks fast (and sounds a bit louder than stock), amazing ride.

I just removed the baffles out of my screamin' eagle slip-ons,,,,,what a difference,,now i really love the way my bike sounds,,,very deep w/ authority!!,,,,as far as power goes,,i didn't lose any,,,i gained some i think,,,,i was just tierd of hearing that low muffled sound,,even my girlfriend said while holding her hand over her mouth "Your bike sounds muffled whats wrong with it?",,,,now when i fire it up the sound goes with the hot rod flames on it,,,,,,therefore makes it more of a hot rod!

I have the slant-style latigo leather harley bags they are $500...they need a fender yoke $42...and chrome support bars $60,,,,the windshield is a detachable super sport from harley $205,,,,,which needs the docking hardware kit $70,,,,it has been modified a bit so it lays back more. I have to say i love the set-up,,,i can remove the bags and windshield in seconds,,and my bike looks like a custom hot rod,,,,or leave them on and it looks like a custom touring bike. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.......FxXxR

More info would be good.  Parts guys have been telling me for years that Harley doesn't make a saddle bag set-up for my fxr4.  Doesn't look any different in the back than your 3.  Part numbers please, if convenient.

Thanks.

The saddle bags part #91010-91a,,,yoke#91018-91,,,supports#90587-85b,,,,the windshield #57960-97,,,,docking hardware#58164-96a,,,,now in my H-D catalog it does not list the 2000 fxr4 model for the saddle bags,,,,but does list the 99 fxr3,,,,if it fits one it should fit the other,,i don't see what the difference is between the two bikes,,,they have the same design,,,the windshield says it fits your bike,,,,again you shouldn't have a problem with installing those bags. Save your money on labor and do it yourself,,very simple proceedure,,,let me know how it goes,,,FxXxR

I just compared my fxr3 to a fxr4 at my harley shop,,,you'll have to put some spacers behind your side panels to make room for the support bars.

Thanks.   I'll see if I can make sense of this info sometime this weekend down at the shop.  If you've got a pic of your set-up without the bags (meaning, just the supports), that would be nice.  If you could circle where I'll need spacers, that would surely get you a gold star.

The yellow arrow is pointing to the sidecover bolt that will need the spacers behind it.

Hey just kinda stumbled across this site..so thought i"d chime in..Wife just got fxr3 this last march(blue) 239MILES 15K..already had forward controls..She has put on hooker 2-1 pipes..beautiful pipes(imho)and sound great.....ya need to check em out...went from 59.2 h.p to 63.7... from75.8 tq to78.5....It was dynoed wif very low miles so they were very very gentle with it...sure the numbers would be better when the motor is broken in....Wife has also added memphis shades windshield(blue) and pancea(sp) lights by Kuryakan..Ihad to quit riding it ..cause it made it alot harder to climb on my FLHRCI

To the question "Are there any FXR3 owners here?" add a resounding YES!

Took possession of mine (blue) last Monday, and I am happy as a pig in mud. Have been thinking about an FXR for about 3 years, while I put a ton of miles on my '95 Sportster. Now I'll start riding the "III" and  do some fixup work on the XL to sell it.

I looked at a lot of 87-94 FXRs, but when I saw this one on the side of the road with a FS sign, I just had to have it.

It came with a Corbin seat, a 'Gambler" I think, and the stock 2-up seat. I put the stocker back on as soon as I got home. That Corbin is not for me. (But itmight be for you, it is a sleek looking seat. Drop me a line if you are interested in it) And, it has short drag bars which I will change out pretty soon. Thinking of putting the bars from my Sportster on it, and putting these drag bars on that; they are very comfortable for me, after 35,000 miles behind them... It also has Vance& Hines shorty pipes on it, which I probably will remove also. Too loud for me -- I'll most likely go for a 2-into-one for more power. Anyone have suggestions for what you've done re: pipes?

Other than that it is pretty much stock.  Id' post a picture, but it looks just like yours, if you're one of the other 287 folks who have a blue one <G>

Greeting's Brothers Of The Blue Flame 99 FXR3 ! Here in Canton,Ohio I thought that I was the only FXR3 Blue Flame rider, and yep,Iam. Glad to have found this web site by a friend from down south. I was not aware that there was onlt 64 made,I thought it was 900. Glad to hear that though. I love the new Mustang seat I got on it now. I am saving everything that is replaced with aftermarket. That is limited too,so far the seat and snap on windsheild, and Metzger rear tire (NICE! and big as I could get to fit ). 5,525 miles on her so far.

Hey Roger, any chance you still have any of the original brochures for sale of the 99 FXR-3 bikes? I'd be interested if you did, Mark

I have confirmed with HD that indeed there were just 64 of the Blue Flamed 99 FXR-3 bikes and 420 of the green on green model. Very desire and sought after bike, anyone would be a fool to sell theirs as they sold somewhere in the low 20's and that was in 99. Made by hand by 2 guys, that's what kept the production numbers down, must of got tired, LOL
