Fender light on 07 SE Ultra
« on: March 04, 2007, 06:20:55 PM »

I am at it again, just added this puppy to my bike!  Nothing like some extra light on the rear and I was really digging this on the Street Glides.
You guys have heard me talk about my buddies with the FLHX Street Glides and their Zippers TMax gear, so I had to get me that cool looking light for
my fender.
Install was very easy and instead of drilling into the Fender, I went with the SUPER sticky 3M double sided tape and it should hold nicely on the fender.  Wiring was a cinch and it plugged right into the open plug in the Tour Pak!

That looks great tigertr71!  :2vrolijk_21:

I went with the standard fender led with chrome fender bumper myself. I thought it went well with my saddlebag guards. I like the look you have too.
I wanted to use my Tour Pak plug for the LED light strip added to the back of the TourPak. Not sure where the shop attached my fender light? Guessing the tail light area.

Thanks Eagle,
I too will be doing the strip acoss my Tour Pak.  I saw Hard 10s up close and it is a great piece of gear and bright.
When I do that add-on I will make a 2 into 1 harness to plug both into the tour pak plug as to not splice into any
stock wires.
Your bike looks great especially with the Bag Guards and matching fender piece.
The possibilities are endless for us guys!!!

Looks nice. BTW - Did you have any trouble acquiring that piece. I believe it's been said before that if you didn't own a FLHX or have a VIN for one that you couldn't order/purchase that part. :confused5:

That's a nice looking addition Tim.  Did you get one that was black to begin with?  Or paint it to match your stripes?  Either way it's a nice looking combination.

One of the friends here was kind enough to order a "spare" for his FLHX and that spare has magically made it's way across country to my garage.  Only just got it a few days ago though.  I've still got to get it painted and then figure out mounting and wiring.

I'm so far ahead of myself on this I don't even know if they light up just for running light or running light and brake light?  Sometime when you've got a moment would mind describing the physical mount at the fender also; where you used the 3M tape?  I'm always willing to be lazy and benefit from someone else's experience.

Looks great on the bike though.  Congrats on getting it installed.

Yes, they're VIN protected. Course everyone knows someone with a StreetGlide, so that shouldn't be a chore.

How much did it cost ?

Twolane,
I will snap a few pics of where I used the 3M tape.  I figured it would be an easy clean up if I ever wanted to remove it ad back to original.
It is only a running light. You will have no problem doing the install.  Total time was 1 hour of anal cleaning nad lining up!

Thankyewsir!  I've already got a spare running light and ground wire up by the left strut that could be dropped down easily too.  Brake light meant I would have had to open a harness back up that I just got through reworking.  So it doesn't really break my heart that it's not a brake light too.

I've only got the body cladding so far.  The light kit isn't VIN restricted so can get it myself.  What kind of bulb is in it, LED or an incandescent of some kind?

Let me check on the bulb type.  It seems as though it was built into the housing.
Do you want me to send you the light/housing part number?

Only if you've got it easily available.  I can always get it from the local parts counter.  If I bug them for the number I'll probably order it from just because they helped.  Get it otherwise I'll order it online and save lunch money though.

Hey good news if you want to get the Street Glide rear fender light.

NO RESTRICTION ON FLHX FENDER LIGHT

I got the VIN off my cousins and the HD Shop said they can get hammered by the MoCo if they don't document the sale etc. but it wasn't an issue any longer since the part is no longer on restriction. :huepfenjump3: :bananarock: :apple:

Thanks for the compliments.  Very easy install with the 3M doublesided tape.  I just went to Key West and back
for a 1500 mile ride and no issues on the tape coming off.  It is STUCK on there and no drilling into the fender!
Plus the added light to rear is a nice bonus!!!

I really like the tape idea, the holes needed for standard mounting was bugging me a bit.  Mine should arrive shortly, really think it is a nice add to our bikes.

Got the install done on the Street Glide fender light for my SEUC.  Man it looks killer with the black fender and light.

Unfortuately I couldn't get pics as my bike is torn down for the front fork work at Traxxion and it's on a rolling lift and stuck back in the corner or the shop behind a bunch of bikes.

Couple of weeks it'll be out and I'll have pics then for sure.  The light does actually almost clip onto the bottom of the fender so with the tape application it isn't going anywhere. :2vrolijk_21:

You mean the tour pak light from Custom Dynamics and the fender light.  I suppose there's always that chance, but the custom dynamics light is fairly small and so is the street glide running light.

If the fender light was also a brake light it might be confusing but it isn't so I thin it will be fine.

It looks clean and heck IMHO.

I'm updating the pic here now that mine is done and IMHO there isn't too much lite so as to make it overwhelming or tacky.

Does anyone know if the Bushtec Vertical Receiver would work with this fender extension?  Is their enough clearance?

John, I just left it black and it looks fine on the rear fender.  In a bright sun you may notice the crimson in the fender, but for the most part I doubt the difference is enough to worry about for most.

Here I go, waking up a dead thread.

I'm looking for information on parts:

Conduit, wire harness, price $6.47

Ground Effects Support, part no. 59790-06, price $5.40

That are used in the addition of the FLHX Ground Effects piece.

I am trying to find out if the conduit above has a part number for it and just what is the Ground Effects Support and is it necessary?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey all, thought i would ping in here and let you know there is a socket opening in the rear taillight fixture that will provide the juice. Remove the Len's and it should be the empty socket on top left. Can't help you with the part number for the socket but it should be the same one used for the lower light effect on the rear fender on Ultras. you can route your wire into the rear of the taillight fixture, but it is a good idea to use the conduit with the sticky backing from the MO Co

Can anyone scan a page from the Parts Manual to show the breakdown and parts list for the rear fender showing all of the bits and pieces for the FLHX rear fender with the fascia? I want to make sure I'm not getting stuff I don't want/need and more importantly, not missing any parts I DO need.  :)

Thanks,

Can anyone scan a page from the Parts Manual to show the breakdown and parts list for the rear fender showing all of the bits and pieces for the FLHX rear fender with the fascia? I want to make sure I'm not getting stuff I don't want/need and more importantly, not missing any parts I DO need.  :)

Thanks,

Chief,

These are the parts I purchased when I did mine.  Seems like there was a part of two I didn't end up using, but I really don't remember which ones.

I grabbed power from the connector in the tour pak.  There is a unused connection supplied in the tour pak.  I tapped into the connector for power for this and for power to my LED running/brake light strip under my tour pak.

Here's the parts...

Ground Effects, part no. 59739-06 (color code: BXT (cobalt blue), BPY (black pearl), BPS (black cherry) and DH (vivid black)

Rear Fender Light Assembly, 69375-06

Pin Housing, 3-way,  part no. 73103-96BK

Pin Terminal, part no. 73190-96

Stud Plate, part no. 59818-06, (requires 2)

Ground Effects Support, part no. 59790-06

Bumper, part no. 59581-05

Screw, part 3596, (2)

Flange nut, part 7499, (6)

Grommet, part no. 59778-06 (2)

Thanks Scott. I don't see the mystery conduit listed. What did you do for that?  :nixweiss: I'm also unsure about the Ground Effects Support, part no. 59790-06 as I'm not sure where that goes and if I need it.

I did not use any mystery conduit.  Whether or not you need the conduit may differ depending on where you pick up power for the lighting.  Like I said, I went into the tour pak - I think others use the tail light assembly for a power source - some have used the accessory circuit.  How you wire it probably determines if you need mystery conduit.  I believe the ground effects support is a bracket behind the fender that supports the light fixture.  I would need to see a picture of it to say for certain...  Other then the light assembly and the ground effects part, everything else is "trinket" as far as cost...

I've already got everything everyone has listed with the exception of the conduit and bracket and grommets. I'll probably tap into the rear harness inside the rear fender conduit and terminate the extra wires with a 3 pin Deutsch connector which means I don't need the conduit. I'm thinking the bracket is a necessity tho.

Thanks for your help Scott.

70531-06 Conduit, wire harness, self adhesive (domestic) Number 33 in picture.
It is a rubber channel with 2 sided tape the wires run through. It is applied to the left side of the facia.
