License plate frame mods?
« on: April 22, 2016, 12:32:40 PM »

Any good direct replacements thats practically plug and play?  I would like a curve that matches the CVO rear fenders and plugs in the OEM harness for lights.

I just installed a Yaffe CVO frame, I had to: 1, notch the left corner of my license plate,  2, reverse the pins in the connector,  3,  buy longer bolts to mount to OEM bracket, Oh and by the way the supplied bolts are Stainless but  metric!!!!  :nixweiss:

He said he wanted "practically" plug and play. Doesn't that qualify? :nixweiss:

But don't it look good!

Go to Paul Yaffe site.
It does NOT work with my BC plate(and I have the older/smaller one with smaller letters)....be wary of the size limitations...even with trimming.

This is the Kuryakyn frame on a 2015 SESG. It was a very easy install. Only took about 15 minutes. No substantial modifications.

Also beware of state laws. Any license plate frame that covers any part of any of the lettering on the plate is now illegal in Texas. It gives law enforcement another reason to pull you over. Especially at a rally. They love to do that in Galveston at the Lone Star Rally.

If you want to mess around a bit, you can use the factory HD one - 67900008. I did it on mine, same bike as you. You'll need to cut, drill, tap, etc. But it looks great and it uses the factory lamp still.

Maybe its just me but it's not a 2015 SESG, it's a 2015 FLHXSE. Is it laziness or ignorance? I think laziness. Sorry but it's a pet peeve of mine.

You just made an anal reply on only your 3rd post ever on this forum.  Sometimes things are better left to your own thoughts and not broadcast.

I had a wife like that for a short while and got rid of her.

I would say its neither.  On this forum the bikes are commonly referred to as SESG, SERK or SERG and so on.

Nice rude way to start off on what is usually a very friendly forum.

I frankly have no idea what a FLHXSE is.  I barley know what a FLTRSE3 is (and I have one).  On the other hand if someone say a SESG I know exactly the line of bike they are talking about.

Lost way too much gray matter over the years to really care about what the official destination is and really don't care.  More important things to remember.

I think mine looks not too bad...considering I have to accommodate a plate the size of a small billboard. That's a frame from the US with the old (smaller) BC plate cut down, hiding about as much as I dare.

Sure no problem. But I didn't take too many pics - here's all I got. First, cut the wing off your brandy-new curved backplate mount. Then I cut the ears of the factory plastic and beveled those edges. Dry fit that on the factory plastic and kept beveling until it lays flat in the middle, the curved part will wrap around it. Then I drilled and tapped it for 6x 10-32 screws. And the screws can't fall out the plate will cover them. I've had mine on for about 8k miles and it hasn't loosened at all. And don't drill & tap any holes under the lamp area, you won't be able to use 'em. Then put it together on the bench and bolt it back up like from the factory.

Nice idea Tom!  Last year I tried to fit that Take-Off from my old bike to the new one, and never consider the modification.
Glad I didn't get rid of it!

I have a 11 SERG Ultra & I removed the tour pack & installed sg rear fillers. Does anyone make a license plate holder that will mount where my old turn signal assy was other than what I have?

Thats awesome. Glad to hear others like it. One thing I forgot to say is that I took some of the wife's clear nail polish and covered the section on the backplate where I cut the wing off with that stuff so it won't rust. Can't wait to see pics.

Okay, cut wing off of new piece, but what gets cut off the stock ate holder and where do I drill and tap? I LOVE the idea, and I bought and returned a Yaffe, because I don't agree with paying $$$ for a custom part that I have to modify. I'd rather modify a Stock Part to make it Custom. Great ingenuity on this, sorry if I'm confused. Believe it to not, I'm an Engineer - but it's always "Measure 2x, Cut 1x!" when I do something.

Look at the second pic I posted to see how much I took off. You pretty much have to eye it up and make it work. For mounting, I did holes on each corner, but you need to dry fit it first so you can see where it lays flat. Then I put 2 extra along the bottom but that's probably not necessary.

Inspired by this thread, I proceeded to get busy giving my old curved plate a new home, and found a slightly easier way to attach it.

Since the four screws that hold the plate on, are in exactly the same location on both styles, I just added enough length for them to go through both brackets.  Some chrome 1/4-20x 1'' flathead screws, flatwashers and nylock nuts did the trick.

I'm not sure what my chosen user name has to do with it and I'm quite sure you have no idea from which it is derived, so I'm going to politely ask you to use the proper ID for your bikes. If you choose not to, I'm OK with you being lazy.  ;D

Originally I was just going ignore your rude comment about me that said I was either ignorant or lazy because I used the acronym SESG .It is common practice to use these acronyms on this forum because not everyone knows all the HD codes for all bikes.   But now you have the nerve to bring up "respect" to someone that was correcting you. Respect is something that is earned ,and not just because you say you are old. You may want to think twice before you attack someone you don't know on this forum because you have a "Pet Peeve" .  Ride safe.

I didn't "attack" anyone but that could change.  8)
I disagree that posters here don't know what the HD "code" for their bike is. In fact, I'm sure they do.
What I wonder about is why you would have such a negative reaction to being called out about it.
And you may want to rethink your attack on me because I'm "old". I don't need to earn anything from you. Of that I am certain. ;)

Of that I am certain. ;)

Hey, Ride safe!
Alright. You are Obviously the "Smartest Guy in the Room'. Demanding respect and calling people you don't know Lazy in the same breath is humorous.  Take care Stinky! Enjoy your SESG! I'm sure with your halfhearted Internet threats and self entitled attitude, you have a lot of buddies to talk about how ignorant we are on this forum. So be it. I see keyboard tough guys all the time- but this isn't that forum. Maybe you're better suited for fb, if you're not too old. Ride Safe, and remember- the one thing always playing against you is Karma. Be well!

Maybe its just me but it's not a 2015 SESG, it's a 2015 FLHXSE. Is it laziness or ignorance? I think laziness. Sorry but it's a pet peeve of mine.

This is the Kuryakyn frame on a 2015 SESG. It was a very easy install. Only took about 15 minutes. No substantial modifications.
I did have to file out the slots in the license plate to line up with the mounting bolts . Other than that , plug-and-play.
Ride safe and often...........Fredfoot

When it comes down to the two of us I'm very confident that I am in fact, the smartest guy in the room, without doubt. I never "attacked" anyone nor claimed you or anyone else to be ignorant. Maybe you should go back and reread. I don't need a thread of commonly used acronyms, that's for you lazy people. I don't believe in karma, I believe life is what you make it. I'm just fine with mine. You on the other hand seem to have difficulties since you have nothing better to do than f$%* with me. I promise you, there are better uses for your time. Take your "straw man" rebuttals elsewhere, they are wasted on me.

And your statement says a ton. Hahahahahaha. Well, Mo, have a good. As the lessons for you continue.... "If you're the smartest man in the room, youre in the wrong room" is how the saying goes. But since you are Older and Wiser - you probably knew that! There's another guy roaming these threads going by HebrewHarley.  You two should hook up. Same narrow minds might think alike!
P.S. - It doesn't matter if you believe in KARMA, that's the significance of it, Tough Guy.

Take Care.
