I took carry 500K in liablity and medical.

I am seriously considering raising it to 1 million.  I believe your insurance must be able to pay out more than you are worth.

In most parts of Canada (I Live in Alberta) we carry minimum $1,000,000 worth of liability, a lot of people carry $2,000,000, replacement value for the vehicle etc. Our rates are usually a little higher, however with more coverage.

Well in that case I guess I can cut my coverage back to $50K and save a bunch on premiums!

Jerry  ::)
What I am getting at is you want you're insurance to have coverage that is greater than the value of you're home, 401K and any other assests all added together.

I guess with the fall of the stock market and realistate market maybe 500K is just fine or less now :(

I have used USAA for everything since 1999.  I have been very happy with rates and coverage.  Never had a chance to test their claims until 07 with my truck.  I hit a deer, they were quick to respond, but unfortuantly on the way to get the repairs done, I hit another deer.  Again they were quick.

That said, some time between April 2007 and January this year USAA quit writting motorcycle insurance.  The are having progressive under write it for them.  They said any bikes I had could stay with USAA until I no longer owned them but they would not write a policy for the wifes new Heritage or my SERG.

So I will have to see what I think of this.  I am with progressive on the bikes for now.

I'm in the same situation as Dave above.  Have USAA for everything but bike.  I just went with Progessive after and actually it was cheaper for the same coverage.
