Chip on bottom endge of my 03 SERK rear fender.
« on: May 30, 2007, 10:59:00 AM »

Looks like a stone was thrown from the tire and chipped the very edge of the bottom of my rear fender. Has anyone ever uses some type of trim around the rear fender edge and if so what did you use?

Also I was thinking about adding a mudflap of it would not look to crappy but from what I have seen I would have to use a chrome trim piece like used on the RKC and then mount a mudflap off of that? Again I do not know if that would look like chit on the bike.

All ideas welcome,

TIA,
John

IMHO mud flaps look kind of crap on any bike. I'm sure there is nothing stopping you getting a  chrome fender tip for the bike though.

I got a similar chip in mine.  I touched up the spot and bought a rear bumper from someone on ebay.  I think it looks fine other dressers come with it.

So chrome or rubber bumper , so the SERK rear fender is just a stock RK fender correct?
 Somthing like this?

Here is the pix, after looking it through the camera it looks like perhaps touch up paint might to the trick (hopefully and if it ever gets here) , open to all suggestions.

How about something like this
This is the HD version and I know Kuryakyn makes one similar

Tri-Bar Lighted Rear Fender Extension Kit

Add a "tail-dragger" look to the rear fender. The Tri-Bar Rear Fender Extension wraps the trailing edge of the fender in chrome, and the integrated Tri-Bar LED light bands add a practical touch. The three smoked light bands glow red in the running mode, and increase in intensity when the brakes are applied. The complete kit includes the chrome-plated ABS housing, fast-acting LED lamp assembly, and all necessary installation hardware.

This product is available in multiple variations. Be sure to look for the one that fits the specific model and year of your motorcycle.

 91067-07

IN-STORE PURCHASE ONLY Contact dealer for pricing and availability.

Fits '99-later FLHR, FLHT, FLHTC, and FLHTCU models.

MSRP US $179.95

Pretty damn fancy :'( Would that clear the "V" Logo on my rear fender and also is it a pain to run the wiring? How is it affixed am I drilling holes? How would I  hold the wire to the inner fender?

I was just thinking about trying the touch up first and it that looked ok leave it. But the dragger does look good.

Anyone else have a idea?

From the looks of the chrome piece mentioned above I'm pretty sure you would loose the "V" on your fender. From the looks of that chip and location I would try the touch up paint first. You may want to look at these post/threads  - Touch Up Paint or?? and how to apply touch up paint they have some good information on how to apply touch up paint.

Fired00d ,
Thank you for the info, that should be a pretty easy touch up in that location but on the other hand paint and myself do not mix. I might just take it into a chip repair shop or just give it a try. If it does not work I was just thinking on getting a RKC rear fender tip.

I installed this type of bumper.
I was looking at those but did not undesrand how it mounted? Would it cover the edge of the fender? WOuld you have a photo on your bike? Do holes have to be drilled?
