ETA Motorcycle Cruise... 2nd time and still a hoot!
« on: March 28, 2014, 03:11:48 PM »

I'm sure many of you have heard of these cruises, but for this who have not, let me tell you... You gotta try it.

ETA Motorcycle Cruises run by Steve Wallach organize through Royal Caribbean and Celebrity (same company) from the ports in Bayonne NJ, Ft. Lauderdale and from Miami. Any where from 15 to 30 bikes loaded by the operators ( no one else touches your ride but you) into the hull of the cruise ship and away you go.

Each island you dock at has an agreement with ETA for insurance, licensing, escorts, local bike club hosts and gasoline. You do nothing but show up when and where you are instructed to load and unload the bikes and you ride the islands.

Each ride is planned. You ride as a group and have escorts to hold traffic as you ride together. You see all the site, stop for lunch, a beer, some shopping etc etc.  then sits back to the ship, load up and go again to the next island.

We've ridden Bermuda, St.Kitts, St.Maarten, and St.Thomas, but they also go to other Caribbean spots depending on the Royal or Celebrity itineraries.

We met great, like minded people, were the talk of the ship, and the envy of every one of the other passengers who have a bike and wondered why the hell they never did the same thing.

Check them out at www.cruise-eta.com

Here are some pics of out trip from March 11-21 out of NJ. Too many to show here but a few anyway

Would be a blast to try this at some time.  I could get two birds with the preverbial one stone as I've never been on a cruise and we could ride the bike on some tropical islands....

Looks like a blast, how is pricing?

I looked at the website and most are already sold out for this year.  Got one 10 day left with lots of options for $1,800 to $2,100 and a few already posted for next year in the low-mid $1,000 range.  When you follow the link hdnik supplied, click on the "eta events" block and it lists lost of information on the upcoming (sold our or not)

I've checked the prices from eta against royal carribean online and they are very similar.... Within 100 bucks. I think royal carribean prices vary depending on when you book where eta prices are fixed at one point. You do have to pay eta 325 per bike for gas, insurance etc... On the ship everyone asks the same question and are amazed that's all it is.

Like hairs says its a great way to do both a cruise and ride you bike in a place you will never get a chance to otherwise. Find your favourite riding couple and go! You won't regret it.

Is this a fuel surcharge for adding the bike to the ship? Can't be for fuel for the bike while riding......can it??

My wife and I just got back from our 7 Day trip out of Ft Lauderdale on the Celebrity Silhouette with ETA.  We rode San Jaun, St Kits and St Martin.

The trip was a blast, we rode down with three other bikes.  My wife rode her own.  The do mean experienced rider when they say that.

Steve had said he never saw more dropped bike in on cruise ever.  But we had several who were foot draggers.

The cobble stone in San Juan one dropped bike.  Really not that much of a challenge but the rider used front brake because dragging his feet on the slow down hill.

St Kits we had 4 dropped bikes.  Again twice was dragging feet and not using rear brake.  There was a steep rough hill, but if you listened, first gear, high revs it was a cake walk, but a few did not listen.

St Martin a walk in the park.

The whole thing was great.  The six in our group will all do it again.  We made several new friends, they will do it again.

Did I say how much I loved it!

Had a look at the website...looks like some great trips!
I only wish they did something on the west coast and/or rented bikes as well.
