BLUETOOTH Cell Phone Interface
« on: December 06, 2005, 09:49:58 PM »

Has anyone installed the Optional Bluetooth interface for your cell phone?
How much did you pay for it and did you install it yourself?

I had mine installed before delivery, well actually at first service, but saying it that way it's under the warranty, they just didn't have it to put on before delivery.  Anyways, no I didn't put it on myself, the mech that did said it took some time, having never done it before, and a wiring harness had to be ordered also.  It gets mounted in the tourpak and is very small.  But the wiring I think is the hard part, it must go from the radio all the way back, requiring the tank to be removed along with alot of other stuff I'm sure.  I got 25% off the book price on it, don't remember what that was now.  To me, it's worth it, I can travel for work on my bike and this certainly makes it easier and safer than just answering a regular cell phone going down the highway.  Works good, need a better mic, will get a J&M as soon as they release the new wire for the '06's.

They gettin you a crack whore too???  Damn, the Bluetooth is under $500 without a discount, and install took about 4hrs, having never done one before.  My mech thought that was a long time, figured he could do it alot quicker after that, I only paid for 1hr labor on mine.

Mother f.... well, disregard that.  But that's frighteningly expensive.  The Bluetooth kit itself is 76408-06 and is right around $400.00.  All the other pieces I think you 06 guys already have.  Even if you have to pull the tank to get a harness to the module in the tour pak that's a lot of labor.

It gets mounted in the tourpak and is very small.

How small is "very small?"  Something that could be stashed inside the fairing or in a glove box in one of the lowers?

Could be it, I'm not real familiar with the Bluetooth technology, guess I need to brush up on it.

My take on cell phone use and riding my scooter

"I make my living being on the phone way to much, damned if I am going to be riding and still be on the phone"

I get on my scooter to get away for all the stress in life and I really don't need to be talking on cell phone cruising down the highway. Yeah I may have the cell phone in my pocket but don't need to be on it.

Different strokes for different folks and I understand the ones that want constant access to reality.
