2011 FLTRUSE with +/- 26,000 mi, returned from a 3600 mi trip fall of last year - clunk on shut downs and excessive noise. When opened by the dealer the Hayden tensioner was found to be bad also - chain wore deep tracks into the shoe which accounted for the excessive noise. Dealer replaced tensioner with an oem and compensator was replaced with the current model with oil tray.

Wow I just changed out for the Hayden tensioner last summer and My stock tensioner hardly had any wear at all with 40 some thousand miles. I wonder if something else is causing the wear.

I have followed this issue on this Forum as well as others.  I have to agree that the past designs lack the ability of the compensators to accept lubrication causing premature failures.  If it didn't why did the MOCO spend so much effort in redesigning all 2014's with the new & improved compensator and the new primary cover with the oil delivery trays.  Definitely a two part attempt at curing the problem.  To early to be sure if they fixed the problem but my guess most likely not, but I'm pretty sure they will get you past the warranty period.  Hope I'm wrong but historically speaking we are again at their mercy for the time being.

Mine went out on my 2009 SERG @ 20k, had it to the dealer several times, they never could find the problem of why it was kicking the starter out, I found the dreaded compensator issue on this website and had an independent shop replace it, no more problems----no more dealership either!

When mine went bad the first revision had just came out and when I asked for that one they told me the fix was to use Evo Industries 30 tooth sprocket which would lower the gearing and I reluctantly said ok. When I picked it up I noticed the lower gearing was nice going through town but as soon as I hit the hiway I got up to 55-60 and the vibration instantly  put my hands and feet to sleep numb like. So I ran it up to 65-70 dropped it into 6th and it shuddered so immediately dropped back to 5th and rode the rest of the way home. By the way the Evo Ind sprocket had NO comp assembly and I told them to take it out and put in the HD one that I had asked for in the first place. All good after that. Moral to the story is don't use the Evo Industries sprocket these motors need the comp assembly.

First one went at 3000 miles due to bolt issue and tool out the stator................then second one at 19000 and another stator but there's no issue with either according to dealer.

38,000 on my 2008. On third compensator. Current one is the latest version with drip tray. Very quiet except can knock some on cold crank up when pulling off. Otherwise, much quieter than others.

 :worthless:
The link between failure and the comp is simple.  Lack of lubrication,  :2vrolijk_21:
will ATF work? It sure makes the clutch hold nice. I have the new comp with glued on scoop and evo industries clutch

I also have a FLHTCUSE8 like Chief2505 with only 9000 miles on it and there was a lot of silver in the last primary oil change.

First one as stage 1 lasted 3000 miles (5000km) and the ramps were gouged and it was banging rather loudly. Second one lasted 200 miles + dyno as stage 3 when the comp bolt backed out and made a little (no make that a lot) mess, fixed by dealer no cost.

Then the current one about 5000 mile (8000km) still quiet. Taps head knock on wood.

donaldp, I have always seen primary drain bolt covered in metal parts from day one. Must be part of the program. Now have over 39,000 with fluid changes at 5,000 and always metal dust stuck to the primary drain magnet.

Without the GMR oiler tray, atf will destroy the spokes on the SE comps in short order.

Knock on wood. I have never had a compensator go south but then I have only owned 3 of these twinkies. One bike had over 50k and over 300 full pulls on a dyno with HP up to 136. I run mine pretty hard I guess. I like to cruise 75-85 where I can. Don't mind seeing the rpm 3200-3500 for mile after mile. Luck of the draw.
