What are these for?
« on: June 19, 2007, 11:40:25 AM »

On my 2007 SERK, there are three rubber plugs on the rear of the bike (rear fender, and rear fender skirts).

Anyone know what they are for?  Maybe a tow hitch....

The 2 on the Trim Strips are removed if you install the detachable TP Rack/Luggage Rack hardware. The bottom one on the fender seems to be a bumper for the licence plate frame. I can't figure out any other reason for that one! Hoist! 8)

The one on the left in that picture is the hole the antenna would come out on bikes (FLHX) equipped w/radios. The one in the middle under the license plate is the SUBTOTBF = Stupid Ugly Black Thing On The Back Fender. Here is one thread with ideas of what people have done w/the SUBTOTBF - SUBTOTBF--what not to do.

You can't really install those things in place of the SUBTOBF on the SERK d00d. Not without doing something with the location of the Licence Plate. It covers half of it, and anything decorative in it's place would look silly. Hoist! 8)

In the second thread I provided they seem to be the same location as the SEEG2's, and some of the items used seem to fit and look better then the black rubber/plastic showing. :nixweiss:

The SERK has a Tombstone tailight and the whole assembly sits lower on the fender than a SEEG/SEUC. It covers more of the SUBTOTBF than on the Dressers. Hoist! 8)

:zwtf:     Maybe the extra plug is a drain plug for when you wash the road crap off the inner rear fender and it runs down and ruins the painted surfaces? :nixweiss: Thank you MOCO!  :2vrolijk_21:

The SUBTOTBF (Stupid Ugly Black Thing On The Back Fender) exists to cover (hide) the bolt that attaches the rear fender to a brace - stick your head under the rear of the fender and you'll see the brace and bolt.  Personally, I don't mind the appearance of the plain black plastic piece.  Of course, the fancy ones on the bikes with high mount license plates do look better, but I prefer the low mount plate.

The rubber plugs are for your Tour Pak Hardware.  When I installed my Tour Pak hardware I took a 1/2 inch piece of pipe and centered the plug and hit it with a Hammer.  Put it around the hardware-if you do not do this it is just another place dirt to get on your bike.

great idea Trailer4E, I was wondering about this if I decided to use the streetglide tail piece on my seeg with my tourpac removable brackets.
