I called Garmin and told him I had a 660 and he recommended using Basecamp.  Been playing with it for a while trying to figure it out.

so is everyone tryn to tell me its not worth my time and energy tryn to figure this out?....so I guess I will break out old faithful (paper map), do my ride, then its saved in the zumo...

I would not agree with that approach, but will agree that mapsource software is much less than desired.
Having said that I am still mapping routes with the added use of google earth and coming up with some great rides.
It takes a lot of time but the end result is very usable.
Ok Mapsource does suck bad, especially if you just want to modify an existing route.

What kind of help can I offer, modifying an existing route is easy.  Again, it just takes a little help to get you there.  PM me if you like with your email & I will help you through it.  It's all about the "Selection Tool" use in the tool bar for modifications.  And as much as I hate to admit it, I learned it by accident, it is not well documented.

No, No  don't throw rocks at me   :argue:

Can someone compare Basecamp to Map Source? Are they very different? Where do you get the Basecamp software? I couldn't see it from by Dashboard??

Lastly, assuming I can get the software, can I install it without effecting Map Source? And, will it pick up the installed maps without have to reinstall anything?

It would be interesting to try both side by side.  Thx!

You can get the Basecamp software from the Garmin website.

Not sure if it will affect Mapsource but I don't think it will.   I'd check Garmin on that but I did 2 new routes a couple days ago and it didn't affect anything I had already loaded.

I run them paralell and they don't interfere with each other. Basecamp is a bit easier to handle and has the latest gimmicks on board like BirdsEye but still doesn't do what such a software should: let you plan a route comfortably and load it down as it is to your Zumo. I'm using it to back up tracks and manage favourites only. My routes I plan with Autoroute (i.e. Streets and Trips on US market) or google maps (in those eastern countries Autoroute doesn't provide full functionality) and than dial them in directly to the Zumo so I know (mostly) what it really directs me to.
