With the recent upturn of SERG activity I thought it would be interesting to offer a fair polling of color preferences. No rancor. Just a fair airing of the options. Vote in the poll above.
-
For some reason I think the pollster is biased, I'm not sure why--just a feeling.

Edit away d00d! The Black one was the best!
Oh yeah, that's probably why I don't have one. They never came in Black. But if it comes out in '09, it's too late for me. I'd never buy a bike with a HD 110 in it! :nixweiss: :nixweiss: :nixweiss: ;D

Only problem would be my "edit" would be just as biased as your preference (black), my preference (O/B/W) and the person that created the polls preference (three tone red). :nixweiss: :huepfenlol2:

I believe the 2000 Black/Orange/White SERG is the rarest
I love the 2001 Black/Blue/White SERG as well and would probably buy that one if the right bike at the right price came along
Not to cast aspersions on the Red 2000 or the Gray 2001, simply my preference
Seems like a lot of folks are jumping on the RG bandwagon lately. That's good. I fell in love with them when I bought my 00 B/O/W SERG 7 years ago.
Maybe if the MoCo sees a trend in sales we'll finally get a new SERG

I like your red one Don, but my favorite is the 2000 Black/Orange/White SERG.
I don't know if I could ride one, but I'd love to try one out some day and see what I think of it. Some day ......... in ten years or more.

Candy,
You're welcome to ride LD anytime, but I'm afraid it's set up for a big gorilla not little ole you so that wouldn't be a fair test. Maybe someone else will have on at Sedona that isn't set up big gorilla style. I don't think you could even reach the grips on mine.

Jamey rode the road king a bit today and it is set up for me or his brother - neither of us very tall at all and he was in agony after a little over a 100 miles. Surprising how you can really get these bikes set up for any size rider. Thanks Brian for the offer, but your right, there is no way I could reach anything that was set up for you. I am more concerned about raising the bike upright then riding it. I just would like to feel the difference in the front end handling. Not that I am any where near ready to leave my bike behind though, so I have lots of time to sit and wait and see what HD is going to do in the future endeavors with the RG.

Brian, according to a letter that 103 received from HD and recently posted the 2000 models were 730 O/B/W and 685 R/R/R. Hobo might exhibit some small level of correctness in his analysis of my potential bias mentioned above. Perhaps, maybe, it's possible that I could potentially somewhat prefer the red ones. Maybe.
The grays like Otis's bike and the orange/black/white I also really really like too. Yet in the different strokes for different folks category it's the blue ones that just never did it for me. But it's not just the SERGs. Except for very dark blue shades I don't care for blue on anything that rolls. I can admire how cool the paint jobs and how good they look. But blues just aren't my thing.
The funniest part about that is that around here within a 90 minute radius of me there are a LOT of blue SERGs. Five I know of. Yet aside from this red one I've got now I don't know of another SERG in the same circle.

Try this one when you stop here to say hi on the way to Sedona unless I'm already on the road ahead of you. You can always ride any bike I've got.

Hey, I just played your phone message about three minutes ago about just those mufflers.
No, I never really paid attention to the sound they make because I could never get past the looks. As you and I discussed though John says they're as good a set of duals as anything he tunes; and a lot better than most. Since he is a god on such things might as well heed the word.
Hope they're not so loud he just hates them. Will really be interested in hearing what you guys learn with them.

Bungy said he orginally tried to sell them to local friends. One thought they were too loud, one thought they were too quiet. Bungy felt they were quiete than Reinharts but with a deeper sound. FYI, the engine builder had the heads put on a flow bench to give him an idea what to bore the TB to and he said and I quote " Brian, this thing is gonna be a Torque Monster " He also said it would put up good HP numbers but those would be toward the upper RPM area whereas the TQ would be coming in quite early - - - - - sound familiar ?

First Major Upgrade!
Here it is. The first major upgrade to the SERG. Staggering in its effect. Seconds in its installation. And, well, nothing much in its overall effect.
Oil cooler before:

Oil cooler with little chrome cover on after:

Honestly, I think I like the bold white script better. The little cover sure highlights the black regulator more too. This thing just slides on and off. 30 second installation. So I can sit the fence on it a bit. :huepfenlol2:

However.......
When stepping back in toward the Scotch I saw THESE resting on the floor. Malevolent. Taunting me. Evil with no place to go. What is a guy to do.... :nixweiss:

Dammit Hobo. It's not the blue SERGs. It's just the blue anything. I don't like blue cars. I don't like blue bikes. I don't like blue bicycles, trikes, big wheels nor pogo sticks. Really deep dark blues I'm ok with. And I don't even dislike the lighter tones. They just don't jack me up any.
I love the paint scheme on all the SERGs. They've done it for from day one. Even better than the SEEGs (yeap, it's true). That fairing and tank... oooooooooooh ::) . I just have light blue issues :huepfenlol2: .

Until seeing it on there I didn't know for sure AJ. Rather thought it'd be as good or better without than with. But for twelve bucks it was worth the cost of research to know for sure.

Otis's bike was the first gray I really got to look at closely for an extended period of time. And I do like blacks and grays in combination. As much as I personally care for reds in anything other than light tones the grays are a very very very close 2nd for me. But, hell, they're all gorgeous.

We need a good weather day again to get them out together. One of my favorite RG pics is that silly one from Undercliff with the red bike so weirdly mismatched lined up against three big blue SERGs. We need to find a place to let me put another SERG with that picture :2vrolijk_21: .
Saturday and Sunday next are both looking good (so far). Travis is supposed to be here Saturday afternoon to do a little work to his Road King (damned if I can remember what right now). So maybe Sunday? We'll figure something out soon.

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. With that said, I really like the look of OTIS' front fender. That was one of the first RG's I had ever seen and fell in love with that fender!

Agreed completely. Randy had a great idea with that fender.
It won't be an obtrusive change or even a stylish change like Randy's fender but I made up my mind one afternoon in the high 70s this past week that I'm going to look for "B" set of lowers. Not having vents in these makes a big difference. Definitely NOT hacking up these originals to add a set. So going to start keeping an eBay eye out for some lowers that aren't perfect that a painter can bring back to life for me.

Are you on a single absolute color preference like I was for a couple (or three or four or eight) years? Or have more than one favorite?

Don, I don't have vented lowers on my '04 SEEG and the SERG is still a noticeably warmer ride. :nixweiss: Guess it's the combination of the design of the lowers and the 100% fixed upper fairing on the Road Glide (no removeable/adjustable wings). Any sort of vent in the lowers would be helpful.
-

I was surprised when it was so immediately noticable on a mid 70 degree day. Enough so that I know a truly warm day would be an issue. Wasn't riding on the highway. But in town mid 70s made for a toasty leg even while moving.
The red bike is the only bike I've ever owned with lowers other than leather or vinyl things that could snap on and off in a minute or two. So it was my only comparative experience. The vents on it work well enough I never take the lowers off. Just don't need to.
This Road Glide will almost certainly see them seasonally removed though. At least until I come up with some alternative cores and get them painted. Have no idea how much of the difference is the much larger and fixed upper or the lack of vents in the lowers. But any extra venting will have to help. Guess we'll have to experiment a little and see what helps.

I can tell you that without the lowers the RG is warmer than the EG. The frame mounted fairing does indeed trap more air behind it than the batwing fairing. It's what makes the RG a better road bike and not as good of an around town bike. When it gets real warm here again in Dago, it will be my first year in 10 here without an RK, a chopper or some model of cruiser bike. I expect I'll be buying something this year. Hmmmmm coupled with my desire for a used SERG, I'm likely to end 08 with three bikes in the garage that belong to me

That's helpful guidance Brian. Thanks. An even better reason to not throw a leg over unless there's more than just an across town hop to be made. The limited riding with this one so far has already reinforced what I thought I knew from my limited time on RGs prior. Whether its warmer slow or not it's a stable and surprisingly nimble-for-its-size platform that is just great out on the two lanes or the highway. The red bike can always run around town if need be. It's nice to have options :2vrolijk_21: .

The FXRs are a beastie unto themselves. Nothing better in my opinion for handling and power/weight that Harley has ever done. Have thoroughly enjoyed and thrashed a couple of them back when they were still around.
If I were to score a third bike I'd certainl not turn one down if the deal were right. For a non-touring model bike for a more local cruiser I'm pretty sure my first inclination would be the Switchblade though. It's another one that the looks just do it for me.

Or a Scarlet Red/Charcoal Screamin' Eagle Vrod (VRSCSE2) (http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=21296.0). :sneaky: :huepfenlol2:

All kidding aside that would have to be another strong consideration. My only reservation there is that I'd not need that level of performance for something that would be just a local cruiser. It might be fun; that's for sure. But something like the Switchblade would more accurately match and mate to how I'd actually use a local platform.

Can't aruge with that. Those bikes are sweet. I'm more partial to the BLUE ones, though. :nixweiss: :huepfenlol2:

Think how boring this site would be if Harley only made bikes in one color :huepfenlol2: ?

Or, worse yet, the gatherings. :nervous: ;D ;)

But we'd have an entirely wider range of customization comparisons to make from :2vrolijk_21: !

There have been a couple of gatherings where I really had to pay attention to which bike was mine. I got nervous over something (Can't remember what) at one gathering and I tried to get into Don's tour pak to get something. He just sat there looking at me till I figured out what I was doing.

I remember that. Started to say something but it was too funny just to watch. MrsWe didn't even get mad at me for giggling at her. MrsWe is cool :drink: .

Will do. Will also keep sniffing the wind for RGs.
Are you on a single absolute color preference like I was for a couple (or three or four or eight) years? Or have more than one favorite?
Yes I'm willing to wait however long it takes to find the "right" O/B/W at the "right" price.

Me too AJ

I can see that several of us on the site are going to be bidding against each other for the same bike at some point.
Let the cheapest bastard win I say ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I'll second that B B....No hurry from me....Mostly spend my money on booze, cigars and gambling, the rest I waste on bikes.
Hope you are feeling better.

I waited a long quiet pretty casual time before finally stumbling in to mine. Am pleased it finally happened. But could have kept right on waiting if need be I guess. Still glad it's here and home though. Nice bikes. :2vrolijk_21:

There is a salvage on ebay now, but only the fairing was replaced. Said to be perfect. Doc

AJ and I aired this out on another thread. I doubt seriously this bike goes for the kind of prices our CVO bros have been paying and for a salvage title bike. No effing way

If it's the listing I'm thinking of Brian the seller was asking a price that's been on the high side for a nice bike for a bike with a salvage title. May or may not be a bike in super condition with no issues whatsoever. But the circumstances made the price unreasonable.

The E-bay write-up is erronious too in that it states that it can be titled like any other bike. WRONG,WRONG, EFFIN WRONG. Most states require it to carry a "SALVAGE TITLE " to the end of it's days and that makes it worth jack squat IMO

My old bike is a salvage now and you can't get financing on it even though all I had to do was put a new crash bar on it. You buy it and you its yours forever. That would be a interesting bike for about 5-6 K. Doc

With the recent upturn of SERG activity I thought it would be interesting to offer a fair polling of color preferences. No rancor. Just a fair airing of the options. Vote in the poll above.
Damn.. When I grow up I want to be just like TWOLANE....So I bought a Triple Red>>>>> IT's been to Area 51.....Pics to Follow>>>>Greg
