A group of the Nor Cal members headed down to Los Angeles last Friday to attend an afternoon session of Ride Like A Pro.

Andy (ak) showed up mid way through the course. We left to a gas station since the rest of us filled up just before we got there.

He's really linking that new (to him) red 09 SEUC.....this makes four CVOs in his stable. He's set the bar pretty high.

Terrie and Susan in the cross.

This is about where it ended for Terrie. The wrist of her glove got hung up on the throttle rocker part of her Kuryakn throttle grip....the bike shot forward and she went backwards. She stayed with the bike for a minute and nearly recovered it but it got away from her when she took a handlebar into the ribs. She went down and the bike continued on before it finally went down.

She took an ambulance ride....just to make sure nothing was broken. Badly bruised ribs (for those that's had them before, feels the same as broken ribs) but forutnately, no broken bones. The bike (I was attending to Terrie when I heard a couple guys behind me saying "I can't believe this bike doesn't have any more damage than this) came out of it even more surprising......especially when I turned to see 10' of fresh scratched asphalt. The bottom corners of both crash bars, the floorboad bracket and the outter edge of the floorboard (where they always grind down in the twisties) are the only scratches on that bike. No paint damage at all.....everybody that saw it agrees that's pretty incredable!

We still made it to the party at the Elephant Bar that evening.

All in all, it was a good weekend.

Thanks to Paula (Champagnegirl) for getting Terrie to the airport...thanks to Marty (110mofo) for keeping Terrie's bike until Jon and Susan were done at Disneyland and thanks to Jon for riding Terrie's bike back to Sacramento. Thanks to everybody else for their support and concern.

Update.....a week later, she's starting to feel a bit better.....I got bacon and home made blueberry muffins in bed this morning.

We're going to drive (in the car) up in the mountains today.....check the snow conditions on one of the roads that we'll be using during the Tahoe GTG. While I expect snow up there today.....maybe even closed, since they're small, twisity back roads but I'm optamistic that the roads will be clear and dry by June.

We'll see everybody at Solvang next month.

JC, sorry to hear about Terrie's mishap! Hope she recovers quickly. Will this incident lead you to remove the throttle boss, change glove types or take any other action? I have throttle boss's on all 3 bikes and could see this happening after you described it? Trying to decide if I'm going to change anything.

She's already told me that she's changing gloves.....something with a velcro wrist to secure any loose flap. We've also talked about removing the throttle boss from both bikes. I don't think that will be necessary as long as she changes gloves and they sure are convienent on the long haul rides.

Interestingly, Jon (jonga) rode her bike back from LA on Thurs. He said that when he stopped for gas it happened to him, also.

Sat morning I left the house at 6:30 a.m. to run down to Eagles Nest HD in Lathrop to get my LED tail light changed out. When I left there, I had my shorty gloves on and left the sleeve unzipped on my leather Screamin Eagle jacket. As I left their drive way, I twisted the wick pretty good, but when I left off the throttle, it just kept right on going......my jacket sleeve caught on it. She and I have had those things for a couple of years and neither of us has ever had any problems and now we both experience it in the same week.

Sure makes you think about the things that we take for granted (gloves, jacket sleeves, etc.). I used to wonder why the hell they'd put velcro on the sleeves of shorty (no gauntlet) gloves.......now we know.

MARK'S CLASS WAS GREAT. A REAL HANDS-ON PERSPECTIVE OF WHAT AND WHAT NOT TO DO. KNOW SOME INSTRUCTION I NEED TO GET PLASTICIZED INTO MY BRAIN AND WORKING ON HABITS TO FORGET. (front breaking at low speeds)

Terrie is a great rider and sometimes great riders have mis-haps. I was sitting on my rental waiting my turn watching Terrie and Susan doing the Iron Cross counter clockwise when the bike started to go down. Terrie in her calm and controlled way grabbed the bike and stopped it from going down further. She didn't look frustrated but had her little annoyed snicker on her lips. As she lifted up it pulled away pulling the bike down to the ground with her landing on top and then it shot away flipping over to the other side. Happened really fast.

I think she showed grit, stamina and love for her bike in grabbing it. Most would have.

Terrie, Here's hope for a speedy recovery and sorry for your pain. Looking forward to riding with you soon.

JC had a lot of concern for Terrie's welfare. (He was shook-up a bit.)

It was great of everybody to help, but I'm not surprised knowing who was there to step up.

Sometimes it takes a mishap like that to see what we are made of. What got to me was the way we all pulled together like the family we are. Susan rode in the ambulance with Terry, JC saw to it that everything came together, Jonga and the others gave Teris bike a good look over and checked it mechanically. The most entertaining part was watching Jonga piece meal together a riding outfit out of leftover womens clothes,.... Now that is a sign of love.

Can't wait to see you all at Solvang.

I haven't seen any pictures yet so I'm gonna have to say ,"prove it" . I will admit wearing a helmet for 6 hours thats trying to crawl off your head really sucks. But for friends like these I'd do anytime they needed it. Was happpy it was such a nice day the day I rode home......

Come on Jon.....you've known me longer than anybody else on this forum.....how many times you seen me witout a camera? I believe I could probably dig up a few pics.....even in the middle of an emergency I'm ready.

Seriously, Mark made a good point. I appreciate everybody stepping up and helping the way they did.....even the guys from the fire dept. offered to keep her bike till I could get back down their to pick it up. The fire captain said "we can keep it at the station for a couple weeks....we have a place inside". Just incredable support from all. Marty & Paula for keeping it in their garage for a few days......Jon for riding it 400 miles back to our garage. I really, really appreciate it all guys!

Yesterday was Terrie's first day back to work. I had just returned from getting the 10k service on both of our bikes at Jim's when she got home from work......talked her into taking a spin on her bike. She put a couple miles down.....said she needs to go further.

My bike is going to the dealership (factory warranty) this afternoon.....noise coming from the rear cylinder.

wow, glad to hear Terrie is OK!! I was looking at the pictures and was really impressed at how good she was looking. Broken ribs must be a hard thing to detect in an X-ray. a friend had the same thing happen where they said no it wasn't broken and turned out it was. From the look on his face, I would say it is pretty painfull.

Damn I just found this thread. Glad to hear that Terrie is doing better. Gald it wasn't any worse than it was.

As far as detecting broken ribs. If they are still in place during the first X ray it is almost impossible to see. It takes a couple of days till the ribs start seeping at the break site for the break to show up!!!

I have got to say the Cali Crew sets the bar pretty high. You are always riding. A great bunch that always sticks together!!!!

Terrie, just reading this thread that JC linked me to from another one and sorry to hear of your mishap. Are the broken ribs finally completely healed and 'pain-free'? I'm still trying to get mine to heal up, but they're taking their own sweet time. How long before you were able to ride w/o pain lifting the bike and all? spyder

Spyder, she only logs on about once a week or once every ten days or so.....so I'll try to answer your question. She's in the other room in front of the tube.

She really is a trooper.....she'll whine to me but she sucks it up in front of anybody else. I think she rode the first time at about six weeks.....just a local ride of maybe 20 miles. Then it was a couple more weeks before she went and rode for the whole day and in the mountains. She said that she could feel it when she picked the bike up off the side stand ten, elevn weeks later. But it's all gone now.

Like you and I were talkin in our PMs the other day.....it takes longer to heal when you get up there in age. She's 53 and she gets very impatient with the healing time......wants it all over with in a week.

well, don't we all? Tell her I said she's a real trooper to be up in the saddle that fast...my surgeon said a total of 3 1/2 months before I could get on a bike from the wreck.
