Be forewarned if you ever go here the 3 or 4 miles back to it from Rt.250 is rough and dusty .... holes & broken asphalt, loose stone but manageable if you take your time.

We used to go up there when we were in high school. The marble work is unbelievable, especially when you consider where it is. If I remember correctly from the tour guide it took 10 years to complete it. In the 70's and 80's the place was a beehive of activity. After their leader Swamie Bhaktipada was accused of having two of the followers killed and convicted for selling fraudulent trademarked sports items the place went very quiet. In their heyday you couldn't go anywhere without seeing some of their followers handing out literature. I can't recall the last time I saw one.

The outside of the place is showing it's age now, but I heard they are working on some remodeling. I will go back and tour the whole place another day, I was by myself when I went and I just wanted to ride so I skipped it. I poked my nose in the front and back and you are right about the marble, nice!

No problem, West Virginia is definitely of the most beautiful states for motorcycling I have ever ridden in. I ended up putting over 400 miles on that day just cruising around "The Hillbilly" and loved it. I would have posted more pics, but I'm not Jock or JCZ and my pic storage was full ... had to delete some old ones just to make more room for the ones I took that day.

Back when I was driving tri-axle and hauling asphalt we paved a bunch of roads down there so I touched a few of those and rode up/down rt. 2 a bit. Something tells me I'll be spending a lot of my summer down there, that state was made for bikes if you ask me.
