I use both the CVO Indoor cover (08 only had indoor dust cover) when the bike used to live in the same area as my woodshop, and an outdoor Exigent cover when in places like at the Chip in Sturgis when between the drunks drag racing an Leroy on his tractor the dust and dew would've formed a baked on mud pie every night.  Washed it down first, but not to the point that I was spending more then 15 minutes or so.  Just enough to make sure I wasn't scratching it up.  Most trips it can sit out and get wet and I'll giver the 15 minute wipe down in the AM to get the dew and softened bugs off.  Bugslide detail spray makes the whole process easier, but I've used everything from Amsoil Miracle Wash to Harley and Mothers quick detail spray.  All of them leave a bit of wax that makes a wet bike safe to wipe down with a bit of common sense and a microfiber.

I have never once washed my bike with soap on a trip.  Soap strips wax.  And I'll be danged if I'm going to take the time to wax a bike on vacation.

I do use an Exigent Solar seat cover almost everyday in the summer months.  It's not waterproof but it does really keep most of the water off.  Mostly though it just keeps the heat from wearing the leather out pre maturely.  And it's 20 degrees cooler or so when I sit my but on it.  Maybe more.  Final advantage is that when the tour-pack is full the helmet can sit under the solar cover.  Actually one on the back seat and one over the back rest and its not really visible as a temptation to thieves.  Not secure at all, but why did under my cover when there's other helmets sticking out hanging on bars.  My cover goes over the Tour-Pak back rest down to the front of the seat and Velcro's to the grab handles I have.  Prior to those handles it attached to the saddlebag guard rails but handles work better.

Never used a mc cover on our trips, did bring a seat cover though that can be really compacted for storage.

Last time I used a cover on my mc was on a Gold Wing. The cover acted like a sail in the wind, blowing my Gold Wing over off its center stand.

Time before that, it blew my BMW R100 RS over off its center stand causing $1K damage back in '84.
I figured I paid enough for my education on why not to cover my mc out doors.

Saran wrapping a seat might be an option.

Major wind that would blow a bike over. That night I would have went for ground room and brought bike inside. Not that I ever did that, and it is  harder to do now, most motels do not have seperate exterior room entrances.

Thanks guys, all good thoughts here. I decided on No Condom. Believe it or not here in drought stricken SoCal we did get caught in a thunder storm half way up the mountain in June. (Go Figure) Turned out our Motel was a cabin with a covered patio.
And yeah I'm  that guy that cant stand to see his bike dirty so it was clean before dark. Had a great ride to Big Bear eve in the rain.

Getting your bike rained on is not a big deal. But climbing on a wet seat can surely ruin the fun.

I pack a plastic kitchen size trash bag to cover me seat in the evening. If anything to prevent dew from getting the seat wet.

Cheap, easy and packs anywhere.

Someone in an earlier post mentioned he didn't use soap because it removed wax. Quality car wash soap is formulated to not remove wax, I use it constantly (prefer Mothers). Dawn or similar dish soap and warm/hot water will remove wax but a simple cold water wash with appropriate amount of car wash soap does not.
