Jerry, I did replace the opener about a month back and it worked ok a few times. For openers I changed from the old Sears black button Rolling code to one of the new chamberlains. I did have to replace my older remotes. Sears closed all their stores near me so went with a hardware store chamberlain that was almost identical to my old unit making installations easier. I'll check wiring of the HD receiver and if that does not get it going ill look into chamberlain makes a interface module for connecting older systems. Part of the reason for looking at the interface is our auto built in controls are not working either. Guess I should have investigated this problem before replacing the unit. Live and learn!
If the problem is the new Chamberlain (they also make Sears and many other brands btw) opener, and I can assure you it is if you have one with the multifunction "smart" wall control, you won't need to buy anyone's solution if you don't want to spend the money. Soldering the wires from the Harley receiver directly to the pins for the open/close switch in that wall control will solve the problem.
When I replaced my old Genie several years ago I ran into the same problem, both with the Harley and with the Homelink system in one of our cars. The older Homelink systems aren't compatible with the latest rolling code standards used by the latest openers, but Homelink can supply a workaround that includes another separate receiver that you install in the garage to receive the signal from the car and then retransmit the correct signal to the actual opener. In the wife's 2010 the added receiver makes the system very short range and touchy (dead spots in the driveway where it doesn't connect). Just like the Harley system, the separate receiver for the Chamberlain works but it is no where near as good as just using one of the remotes that came with the new opener.
Response I received back in 2011 from Homelink about the problem:
Thank you for visiting our HomeLink website and for your inquiry.
We updated our code to ensure compatibility with the new line of Chamberlain/LiftMaster/Craftsman openers with MyQ/Security + 2.0 rolling code/Assurelink. However, vehicles that were manufactured before the latest version of Homelink was available will need a HomeLink Repeater to program the HomeLink to your new Chamberlain, LiftMaster or Craftsman opener.
Depending on the manufacturer and year of your vehicle, you may be eligible for a free Repeater, all you would pay for is the shipping which is $7.00.
If you are not eligible for the free Repeater our cost is $49.95 plus $7.00 s/h. To determine eligibility please call us at 1-800-355-3515. Our hours are M-F 5am-6pm, Sat. 7am-4pm MST.
Please feel free to email me with further questions.
Best Regards,
HomeLink Customer Service
