We use liquid electrical tape all the time with boats - if it works there it will work for what you want to

My work here is done :2vrolijk_21: .

Well, your ears must have been aflame today!  ;)  I did it your way, tank off, covered live back to the battery.  Then, when I was thinking, of course this is an easy, half hour job, just like Don says, I remembered those 3 pesky little allen screws at the back of the chrome cover on the fuel pipe connector to the tank. 1/2 hour to take them out, another 1/2 hour to put them back!!!

It's done!  I hope you're happy!  ;D

Jim, no kidding or teasing here.  You need to make a tool.  That bugger is a five minute job with the right tool.

Take the allen wrench that fits the screws.  Then cut the other end of it off short enough that it'll spin 360 without hitting the tank on the upstroke.  With the shortened wrench you just find the screw head once and spin the little bastard until it's out.

I also only keep two screws in mine.  Have for years.  The two side by side to each other.  It's not going anyplace.

I made that tool as soon as I tried to put the thing on first time, Don! :-)  I mustard mitt that I thought about not putting that third screw in, but my anal-ness won't let me.

I had the same chrome cover.

First time putting it on I thought "this is a pain".
2nd time putting it on I thought, "this is stupid"
3rd time I left the 3rd screw off.
4th time I put it in the basement with the rest of the spare parts and just use the chrome and braided fuel line that doesnt fit  :2vrolijk_21:

Even though for years I made special tools to help with my former career and even though I have a box of extra Allen wrenches I never thought to just cut one, Doh!

I even already have a few that are cut for other reasons, I'll have to go check, now that I think of it, the one I cut for the GPS might be the same size.

You need to cut it so the legs are of approximately equal length.  Even then it's tight because of the finned headbolt bridge I have.
