Anyone try the Garmin 276C?

I have one, use it in my truck, rental cars on vacation, my 15' whaler, the towboats I work on part time etc etc. and I hooked it up on the bike. Worked good on my testing, didn't look bad either. I'll mount it back on and take some pictures.
I used it extensively this past winter in the Philadelphia area, and I would say the accuracy of the unit and directions given are in 98

I have a 276C that I hardwired in (sound too). On a recent group trip to AZ it worked AWESOME. I was the unoficial map expert guy. Wifey & I did a lot of exploring on our own & it worked great for finding gas stations etc. Ain't never gonna leave home without it!

Bungy,

How did you get the sound to work, I have the feedback problem. I have been waiting for a reply from Garmin with a cure.

One of the neat features of the 276; if you need a gas station, just bring up the menu and it will show all the near stations, as well as anything els you are looking, restaurants, shoppping attractions etc.

I saw that thread previously. What is special about the cable? Must be something to not overdrive the radio.

Porthole;

I'm not sure what you mean by overdrive the radio. The GPS is hooked up to the AUX port on the front of your radio. You have to switch the radio input to AUX to use the GPS sound. They're not on together.

Bungy

That is how I hooked it up , but the audio overdrives the radio and causes a loud hum. The AUX input is a "pre-amp" input and the Garmin's output is an amplified one, therefore it overdrives the radio.

I contacted Garmin as to the audio output of the 276, this is the answer I received.
Thank you for your inquiry.

"The audio output can not be adjusted in the unit.  This is the specs of the output.  The motorcycle cable does not have a pre amp. The audio circuit shall comply with the following:

* 1 kHz sine wave > 900mV RMS
* Output power > 0.1W
* Distortion < 5%
* AMPSUPP > 6.1V with 1 kHz signal present
< 0.02V with no signal present

I will pass on your suggestions for the split map/sounder screen to add the data field though I could see a possible problem with too much clutter with the numbers from the sounder, map and data fields.

Thank you and best Regards,
