GPS designed for Motorcycles
« on: March 21, 2005, 08:25:10 PM »

Came accross this on another site. Thought it might be of interest.

"Called the TomTomRider, the touchscreen driven GPS can be operated with any type of glove, the screen is big, the riding instructions are in 3D and even better, the unit is equipped with Bluetooth, so you can receive vocal instructions directly into your Bluetooth equipped helmet !!"

Just installed a Garmin 2620 Street Pilot on my SEEG.  It also has a color touch screen and has all North American city maps preloaded.  Also has voice directions which you can wire into the aux. jack on the front on the radio.  Neat piece of equipment!  I'll post some pics later.

Any trouble with the sound on this read about a closed loop ground?  never used the voice instruction on mine but a freind has had trouble with static and had to install something in line to eliminate the static.

I think that you will find that static problem with many radio and communication devices.  I am not certain if this company has anything built in or not to deal with the closed loop static problem.

There was a RAM mount cradle specific to the Garmin 26XX that seemed very commonly used and very commonly suggested.

I discussed the use of a Garmin 2620 on a motorcycle with Garmin and they did NOT recommend the use of the 2620 as it has a hard drive inside and the vibration will damage the hard drive. They (Garmin) recommend the 2610 or the Quest for motorcycle use.

I was told the same thing.  Am hoping it proves to be "cover your butt" warranty protection jargon.  Mine has worked over rough roads and extended hours so far without even a blip.  And if you check the tech spec's for good micro drives the shock ratings they possess are pretty damned impressive.  By those numbers it should take more of a riding-in-to-a-wall rather than a bumping-through-a-pothole kind of shake to really mess them up.  But hey, if cumulative deterioration kills it the drives can be replaced and the software can be reloaded.  So let the good times roll  [smiley=beerchug.gif]
