2009 Touring FullSac Muffler Conversion
« on: November 18, 2008, 01:24:55 PM »

Has anyone had their 2009 Mufflers modified by Fullsac performance?

I'd be interested in hearing your story.

Noise level before and after.

Power before and after.

Thanks in advance...

There is really no need for you to send in your mufflers, it is an easy install to do it yourself if you have a dremmel and buy a bit for the job. I have the 2" Fullsac cores and plan to order the 2-1/4" cores for a bit more volume. I haven't dyno'd my bike yet, but I can tell you that there is a much better sound coming from the mufflers.

Greg,

Not difficult at all.  Probably even worth buying the tools if you need to.  Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions.

My question is to those who have the FullSac conversion, how loud is it compared to say Rinehart True Duals, or stock?

Noticeable power improvements, perhaps verified by a dyno?

Not nearly as loud as Rinehart's but sounds very good (deep).  Jim Kerr posted db numbers and a video in the SERG threads.

Power depends on too many things.  The cat will prevent a muffler change from developing more power.

I just did the cc removal and put in the 2.25 Fullsac baffles.  When I removed the original baffles all the insulation came out with them and I decided to leave them out.  I'm very happy with the results and I can't say that the Rhineharts are any louder.  This baby roars!
I haven't done a dyno yet but I will post the results when I do.

I have the 1 3/4 fulsacs and love them.  I did not want loud and these are not loud, but sound and perform much better than stock.
If you want louder than go with the 2" or 2.25".   You can not beat the price for an exhaust upgrade and Steve at Fulsacs is great to talk too for more info.

I spoke with Steve at Fullsac and he told me not to remove the insulation.  He said that will make the pipes louder, but also change the tone to something on the tinnier side.  I've got the 2.25" on their way and I'll leave the insulation in, and if they aren't loud enough for me, I guess I know how to take it back apart and remove the insulation.

Can anyone here explain to me, in simple english, because i am simple, that other than saving a few dollars what would be the advantage to changing to this system other than putting on someone else's true duals or equivalent? It seems like allot of work and potential damaging of the stock pipes such as scratches or denting, or worse. I still don't know which way i am going to go regarding my pipes and this might be it if i could understand the advantage, if any.

You shouldn't have problems keeping scratches off. Just put the shields aside and you will be fine. I did the fullsacs since so many were swearing by them. I figured that if I didn't like them, I could always sell the finished mufflers to someone. It was very inexpensive to try and not much else available on the market, especially if you want to keep the 09 setup.  It turns out I like the sound of these better than anything else I have heard. I spent $143 instead if $2000 and liked the end result more than the complete system on my last bike.

Another advantage is that it is simply illegal to change exhausts though enforcement is sporadic.  Note the engraving on your mufflers.  Two summers ago, the CHP (California Highway Patrol) cited every bike they could find on PCH (Pacific Coast Hightway) with non stock pipes.  Keeping the stock look may help avoid an issue.
