Thanks Rhino.  With the tape there that is the best illustration I could have hoped for to see how much wiggle room you can get.  

The harness connectors that need to be released can be gotten to with the bike still pinned.  But with my not so dainty not so little hands it's next to impossible.  Now I'll compare how much I actually need to lean it out with your photo.

 Another possibility could be some long needle nose pliers, or forceps. Tools !!!  I also draped a towel between the bag and the rails to prevent scratching.
