I have an idea why the stores may be empty....

Horrible customer service, possibly?

I was in a couple today, and that seemed to be a consistent theme....

That definitely doesn't help, but the typical customer service was crap back when the showrooms were full also.  I keep hoping this "market correction" (use of the word depression is frowned upon, since it is depressing) will weed out the worst offenders in the "screw the customer" competition.  It all depends on us and the rest of the customer base.  We all have a chance now to shun the worst shops and support those who treated us right in the past.

Yep like Don said. Been using her almost exclusively. You can get the 20% off while still talking to her on the phone. Some internet sales places can't be ordered over the phone at the 20% off, but she does it no sweat. Mention this site to her! A lot of us here use her.

planenut, my run ins have been over sales and service in different dealers over the years. But I've still spent plenty with them too. Still have relationships there should the occasion arise that I need one. But they know Vern's always done my work. Only got involved because of the new bike (W.....ty) in Jan '07. That didn't last long, and had Vern build a motor eventually. Ya don't need em if you're not trying to get something out of em. I'm better off paying and knowing WTH's going on than worrying what they did! STD! ;)

I've used Jenni quite a bit too.  I've bought a lot of parts and even my extended service plan for my Street Glide from her...all at 20% off.  She's a great person and provides great customer service.

It seems to be a very regionalized issue.  Dealers in south east PA seem to be holding their own.  The dealer I bought my SERG from sold 28 bikes for January.

Hang in there with the local "HOG" group.  Get your 15% and run.....  HD is in for big trouble here soon.  They over built the factories and the demand is slowing to a crawl. The "big" excitement is in the "new" offerings and will continue to do so.  If you want a softail or dyna for a giggle, now is the time to buy.  I won't be puttin down $35k  and the factory knows it.  Save your pennies and go long in 6-8 months.  The deals are only getting better.  Remember, if you have cash right now,  you get the best deals in the last century.

Enjoy,

Beags

That's the truth about it being a great time to buy.  I'm fortunate because I have a local dealer who I like and trust and have dealt with for over 15 years.  Their store policy has always remained the same. Never price gouged, or packed on crazy set up fees, through good times and bad. If you really need service, they find a way to squeeze you in, etc. They're not perfect, but they treat you the way you should be treated.

I walked in the other day and bought a new 2008 CVO Dyna in the anniversary paint scheme for $5K below sticker.  No set up or freight charges and they extended the warranty for an additional two years at no charge when I found out the bike had the head gaskets replaced under program 0906.

I was in the local dealer both Saturday, so the wife could pick up her new bike.  The place had 20 or so bikes out side and 10 cars.  They sold 8 bikes that day.  I was back in Sunday as I forgot to get the turn signal conversion for the wifes new bike, it was a warm day, 58.  There were at least 60 bikes in the parking lot, and the place was packed in side.

Then again we have a great dealer.  The owner is a rider and usually in the store.  The staff is friendly and help full.

They also deal on bikes, and not just this year.  In 07 I paid less then MSRP for the wifes 883L.

I deal with Van Nuys Harley, during my last visit I noted that both the show room and service were packed with new built up Bikes. Additionally there were between 15 and 20 bikes on the storage rack still in boxes and they were unloading a truck as I watched. I spoke with my service manager and he stated that during their hay day they were moving between 45 and 50 bikes a month. Now they are lucky to move 6 to 8. One would think that they would be ready to deal but that does not seem to be the case.

Went in to my local dealership today to see if they have a ship date with the results of nothing. I brought my wife in to size her up and the clothing lady told me they laid off 12 employees and is no longer going to stock the 09 FXRG clothing because it is not moving so instead having an order of First Gear coming in because of the drastic difference price. Still can not wait to get my Ultra Ruby CVO.
