This is on-topic, and off-topic...kind of of. I just got done installing Mobil 1 V-Twin 20-50wt. in the crankcase of my 2008 SERK, and Redline Heavy Duty Shockproof in the tranny. I had put Mobil 1 V-Twin in the tranny just a few days ago, and there was a notice whine in 4th that hadn't been there when running HD Syn3 (4100 miles on the bike). Boy, what a difference the Mobil 1 has made in dampening the upper-end noises. And the Redline completely eliminated the 4th gear whine. Now I don't know that Syn3 is bad for the bike, and in fact would suggest that it's probably just fine given the number of folks who have over 100K miles on their bikes with that oil. But, I'm convinced that this oil is better. Will it prevent problems down the road that would come up if using HD Syn3? I'll never know. I will however ride in more comfort given less noise, less heat (yes, I did in fact notice less heat), and more confidence (although you can't take confidence to the bank).
WRT Tucson Harley, I had a very good experience with them last month when I was making a solo ride on my 2002 Road King down from Colorado and my engine light came on. I was heading out of Bisbee when this happened. I went to the Sierra Vista Harley shop (which come to find out is an annex of Tucson H-D) and they said the fault number was indicating a bad regulator. Problem was they didn’t' have one in stock. They called Tucson and they had one in stock. Its 2:00pm and an hour drive from Sierra Vista to the Tucson shop. They said to get on the road and they'd hold a slot open for me. Well, what is it that always happens in the summer on our roadways? Construction. So it took me about 1:20min to get the Tucson. Then I discover my GPS has taken me to their old address.....all the while having to detour through more construction. I finally arrive at the Tucson HD shop around 4:15pm (Did I mention that 10 miles out of Sierra Vista I looked down while riding and discovered that the tech had failed to reinstall my leather carrier bag that goes around the saddlebag crash bar? So I have to turn around and head back. Just after I did this I see this jeep coming up along side of me, and it’s the tech. He had realized it to and came chasing after me. He said I sure was hard to catch!
Long story short, the technician at Tucson HD stayed until 6:15pm fixing the bike. Even though he was told by the Sierra Vista tech it was a regulator, this tech took the time to do his own diagnoses, and determined that it was in fact just bad spark plug wires. I had bought new wires before I left on the trip and they turned out to be defective. It was the wires that were throwing off this code. The tech saved me a couple hundred dollars, and worked late to make sure I could get back on the road that evening.
Now I just need to get in touch with MoCo and see if they'll refund me the $300 in labor charges (between Sierra Vista and Tucson HD), not to mention the aggravation.
