Amsoil 20/50 in 2008 SEUC
« on: April 03, 2008, 09:53:03 AM »

I just took my 08 SEUC into the dealer here in Tucson to have the dreaded rear cylinder oil leak repaired. I mentioned to one of the Master Techs that I know that I had a couple Qt's of Amsoil 20/50 in my tour pack in case they needed it. He informed me that since I was running Amsoil in the bike that I had voided my warranty with Harley. At 10,000 I switched over to Amsoil 20/50 Harley oil instead of Syn 3 and now I don't no if he was jerking my chain or if I totally ruined my warranty. I'm hoping I don't hear any issues about it as they work with Mo co on the repair of the oil leak. Can anyone shed any light on this issue? I have seen a letter that Harley recognizes Amsoil in there bikes and it is just a better synthetic than Syn 3. It just makes me sick that this high dollar scooter has an oil leak and now I might not have a factory warranty. :( :( :( :(

Total BS. Unless they give you the oil for free, they can't dictate what you use. Your warranty is fine.

I forget which HD rag had a letter written in about a statement they had made in an earlier edition claiming warranty problems if not running Syn3. Their reply was that your warranty is fine as long as the oil meets the spec, which Amsoil does.

Thanks Chief!!  That what I thought and as hot as it get's here in AZ Amsoil is the only way to go. I am having them put Pro 1 Harley lube in the Primary and Tranny.

I believe it was Hog Tales or Enthusiast. Either way as Chief stated unless they are providing you the oil free they can't void your warranty for using a brand equal to or better then Syn 3. You may just want to mention the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act to them.

It's amazing how many people still preach that line. I don't know why. :nixweiss:

:nixweiss: You might consider using your Amsoil in the primary also; and using Red Line Shock Proof Heavy (the pink stuff) in the tranny.  What is your experience with pro 1?

I used the Pro 1 in my Roadking and I was very impressed with how quiet my shifting was and how quiet the tranny was. Shifting was also very smooth.

The law states that so long as you provide a suitable alternative it's fine.  Who is this plonker anyway?

Just inform the dealer all you need is to have that statement in writing--I'll bet you won't get it.  But, If he does put what he said in writing just forward it to your state atty general and you might be part owner in that dealership soon.

Seems like you might want to move on to another dealer. If they're that ignorant or crooked do you really want them tearing it apart?

This is all you need to know. Print out the information in the link Gary has provided above and take it to your dealer. Ask them if they'd prefer you involve the State Attorney General's Consumer Fraud Division. And make sure they understand that you will also seek restitution for legal fees.

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act was passed literally by an act of congress back in the 70's for exactly that kind of problem.

The odds are good the dealer wasn't around then and the tech working on the bike wasn't born yet.

Do your homework, be an informed consumer and rest assured you did not void your warranty.

I went all the way to Milwaukee over a warranty problem, after "educating" few people along the way my denied warranty was cleared up.
