Correct me if I'm wrong (again), but the country designation is for the complete assembly. What about the individual pieces that comprise the crankshaft assembly, like the left flywheel, right flywheel, crankpin, rods, etc.? The point I'm trying to make is that many component parts are subbed out these days, and not always to the same vendor, so the country of origin on the box for the complete assembly could be misleading. In the auto industry I saw parts that were cast in one country, machined in a different country, and then placed into a subassembly in a third country before being shipped to the final assembly plant in possibly a fourth country. Such is life in a "global" economy where manufacturer's chase the cheapest labor and least restrictive environmental rules across the entire globe. Not that I have any inside knowledge that the parts aren't all made in the USA, just thought I'd throw out the question in an attempt to help stir the pot a little.

That is true, and now that you mention it, beginning in ’73 the BT rod bearings and aluminum retainers were sourced from Germany. Back then you could purchase the individual components; not so today. Consider the pot stirred.
