Any opinions on Big City Thunder head pipe baffles?
« on: November 17, 2010, 03:17:21 PM »

I have a 2011 SE Street Glide. It has V&H Dresser Duals with CFR Slip-ons and has been dyno tuned using a SEST. I'm entertaining the idea of trying a Big City Thunder product that installs between the slip-on and the head pipe.

They claim: "The Thunder Monster baffles are designed to deepen the tone or note of the exhaust, improve the midrange performance and either keep the volume of sound that you have now or quiet the volume with our QQ Series Thunder Monster baffles."

And: "Most of our customers describe the resulting sound as about 15 to 20% quieter with the QQ Thunder Monster baffles and deeper in tone."

Install: "Slip the mufflers off, with the head pipes and heat shields still on the bike you would drill one hole in each head pipe, slip the Thunder Monster baffle in, secure it with the button head bolt that we send with them, and slip the mufflers back on.  You should be good to go."

Intrigued because I don't want to start over, and also don't want to spend a ton of money on my next move. Little concerned about drilling a hole in each head pipe if I don't like the result.

If I didn't like it, next move probably would be switching to a different slip-on with different baffle options; but what about the hole in the head pipe? Could I just leave the bolt there and be good to go?

Thanks.

This must be something new they have come out with, I have run both the Thunder Monster and now running the TM QQ Baffle in V&H Big Shots. I have several holes drilled in the pipes where i have moved the baffel around and as far as i know it has not hurt anything.  :nixweiss:

Thanks for the reply. Not sure that it's anything new... Wondering about their claim that things run 15-20% quieter (or less loud) and deeper. How, if at all, do you "fill" the several extra holes. Is this something you'd recommend?

OK, I think i know what you are saying now. BCT is saying to use the TM or QQ baffle in between the head pipe and slip on muffler, Right? If so i have no idea what that would sound like or if it would help or hurt performance.

The two sets of pipes i have used them on did not have slip on mufflers. One set was Vance & Hines Big Radius and the other set is Vance & Hines Big Shots neither one of these have mufflers. They come with removable baffles which i removed and installed the BCT Baffle. As far as the sound, Yes they are deeper but they are LOUD. Example stock HD idles at 80db mine idles at 107db, as far as the extra holes in the head pipe i did not fill them with anything and as far as i know it did not hurt a thing and have been running them that way for 2 or 3 years.  :2vrolijk_21:
