We refuse to participate in the pyramid scheme with Amsoil, that would allow every person on the face of the planet to be a dealer, for a $10.00 fee.
We carry Red Line here for clients that want synthetic engine oil.Scott

I use moble 1 synthetic  in everything. I believe the white paper test shows it to hold it's viscosity a little better than Amsoil at higher temps and its way easier to get.

Currently using...

Motor - Amsoil 20/50
Primary - Redline MTL
Tranny - Redline Heavy Duty Shockproof

I'm a bit surprised so many use Shockproof heavy in the transmission.  I've run into that locally.  It always seemed a little viscous for a motorcycle.  Do you like it?

Why do you say that, just because they have "Heavy" in the name?  If you check the actual viscosity, it's the same as the other gear oils recommended for a Harley trans.  They make a claim that it protects like a 250 weight or some such drivel, but that's not the real measured viscosity.

I've been using it for many years, before it became the latest big thing in the forums and at the dealerships as a matter of fact, and I've had no reason to switch.  Works fine, nice red/pink color, smells terrible, tastes like crap.  Good for tracing leaks. ;)

Hmmmmm, you guys are braver than I am. That stuff is like 4% calcium and I know the viscosity is at least 3 or 4 times that of a normal 75w-90. They never publish actual viscosity data but their 75w-140 is like 2x mobil 1 75w-90.  People seem to love it, I've met a few locally that use it.

I have used it in bush hogs and a k5 I own. Takes forever to get down the funnel.

The viscosity rating is 75w90 on the gear oil scale.  Feel free to check with the folks at Redline if you don't believe me, I don't profess to being infallible.

The stuff does cling to parts better than many other products, perhaps that is what makes folks think it's more viscous than it really is.  The "cling" factor is one reason they don't recommend using it in anything that uses a pump or has narrow oil lines.  It's specifically made for manual gearboxes and rear axles.

Mobile 1 V Twin in engine and primary, Redline Heavy in the Tranny.  You can get them and the proper K&N oil filter from amazon with free 2 day shipping with a Prime account. I like.

6 quarts Mobil 1 - $60
2 quarts Redline Heavy Shockproof - $27.90 - Won't have to order this next time.
1 - K&N KN-171C Filter - $14.39

Total: $102.29 with some extras.

I use HD Syn 3 just because I can pick it up at any dealer... but I really think there are much better options out there.

My HD dealer carries both. You pick and choose. In fact most HD dealer I've been in sell Amsoil and HD brand.  :2vrolijk_21:

The viscosity of a 75w-90, is 90, that number comes from the oil being tested at 210* the number with the W after it is how the oil flows at a colder temp. So any brand of oil with say a 10W 30, the oil viscosity is 30, I don't care what brand it is. The API ratings will tell you more about an oils quality.

API stands for American Petroleum Institute. The letters next to API, such as SM, refer to the quality level of the motor oil.  In the case of SM, it’s the highest available standard for passenger vehicle.  CF is a diesel engine or commercial vehicle standard and the highest current one is CJ-4.  More information is available at the API website: www.api.org.

I've been using Redline shockproof heavy in the tranny & MTL in the primary. In the engine I use Mobil 1 Vtwin 20w50. Stopped by my local AutoZone store today and got it for $7.49 a quart.
