Funny how you guys seem to miss the fact that it's run fine for 7000 miles and a year. This is not tune related other than something has changed to make it start pinging 7000 miles later. There is no reason what so ever to reflash the ECM, there is another issue that needs to be located and resolved. Seafoam may do it if it's carbon build up. How old is the fuel your running? It could be that the fuel went bad after sitting for the winter. I would take it out and run the seafoam through it and make sure to have fresh fuel in it and see how it does, just keep the motor out of the area you hear the noises in.

Big Lew (Mike),

I would still check for the knock sensor to eliminate it.  Maybe the fuel has more ethanol in it than it did previously and now it no longer is masking the detonation or the detonation was minor like under 1 degree and you just didnt notice it.

Get a spray bottle of water and soap and start the bike and spray around the intake flanges.  Does the bike stall or start to die?

Did you use adjustable pushrods?  If so, you could pull the pushrod covers and check them to be sure everything is tight.

Can always pull a rocker box top and be sure that everything is tight.  Any chance a valve cover may have moved and maybe something is hitting up there ever so slightly?

More invasive would be to check the lifters maybe you have one going down and you are hearing valve train noise and representing it as detonation.

Mike...are you getting your fuel from the same place all the time?  Just sayin' that they might have gotten a "bad batch", if that's the case.  I try to get my fuel at places locally that I know sell a lot of it, so I know it's relatively "fresh".  If not, I personally would go with the Seafoam idea first...as I mentioned, the Stratoliner owners who complained that their bikes started pinging after X number of miles swore by the stuff.  That bike is a relatively high compression, big displacement, 4 valves per cylinder, pushrod engine.  It's worth a shot before you start dicking around with the MAP, IMO.  Like Steve said, the ECM hasn't changed, so it's got to be something else, and from what little I know, carbon buildup can cause problems like you are describing.  I'm a "keep it simple, stupid" kind of guy, so am inclined to start with the easier stuff first, sort of like Billy Bob Thorton in "Slingblade"...."It ain't got no gas in it...mmmmmhuh"  ;)

I'll try the spray bottle deal and see what hapens. I haven't put any ethenol blended gas in the bike sinelast july when we were out west. we don't run that crap here in the south.LOL No adjustable pushrods and I guess the noise the subjective, I know the boys I ride with that have 96 or 103cc don't sound like they are coming apart. Makes me nervous and then I turn the radio up. I wonder every day or so fi I should buy the extended warranty!!!

You could try some octane booster and see if anything changes. IF it goes away then you know for sure it's pinging and not a top end noise. The SeaFoam poured down the throttle body with a running engine may solve it if it's carbon build up. I would want to solve it rather than turn the radio up, as my luck doing that would mean it comes back and bite me later for more money than it could/should have.

Thanks Steve I'll try and see what happens. I guess the noise level is subjective. I get off the 110 and on my dad's 02 and I thik I'm riding an electric bike.

Did you reflash the map?

BigLew, what springs did you change. I thought the 54 cam was a bolt in? Just wondered. I also agree that you should check for intake leaks which would certainly lean out your fuel mixture.(maybe something needs to be tightened on your intake track) One thing out of left field and there is probably no chance of this, but take a look in your mufflers and check that you have no blockage in your exhaust flow. CAHDBIKER

hey guys its been a year and 7,000 or so miles since I change to the stage 2 Fullsac kit for the 110, catless pipe 2" cores 54 cams and springs and gasket. TTS map was installed. I have noticed lately the that it knocks a little when I pull from a dead stop evn though I am using a 30 tooth and new belt. Not sure but something is not right. Power feels like its down as well. Would she need a new tune or plugs. Bike has 12k on the clock and always runs 93 oct. Any suggestions?
