Bassani
« on: May 07, 2006, 09:26:08 PM »

Has anyone tried the Bassani true duals and pipes on their CUSE?

Talked to a couple of guys that highly recommend them.  Suppose to be about the best in terms of performance.  Just wondering if anyone has gone this route.

If so, Sound?  Perfromance?

I don't have any firsthand experience with them, but last year when talking about upgrading the 103 in my RK the guys from Kendall Johnson's shop were saying that Bassani was the way to go.
My neighbor is a friend of Kendalls and is going to ask him what he's been having success with in the 103 efi bikes.
I'll let you know what I hear.

At delivery I set up my CUSE w/V&H duals and V&H pipes.  Love the sound, but for trips and such, they are pretty loud. Since I had used them before, I changed out to Bassanni mufflers before having the bike dynoed. I wasn't real happy with the #'s, but with true duals, 6 sp, and 24/37 gearing, I wasn't after just numbers. After a while, I decided to put the V&H mufflers back on cause I really did like the sound. Even though the bike was tuned w/Bassanni installed, it seems to run better from a seat of the pants meter w/V&H.  I'm leaving for an Arkansaw trip tomorrow, so this past weekend, I re-installed the Bassanni so I can listen to tunes, and again, from a seat of the pants perspective, the Bassanni don't seem to have as much torque at lower rpms.  They do have a good deep sound and are pretty quiet at most throttle settings though. I kinda like having two sets of mufflers to use for different circumstances.  I should also say that the dealer that tuned my bike is not known for good numbers, and they told me before hand that they weren't fond of duals, so I don't really feel they put their heart in it.

I've been hearing a lot of good things about the V&H duals.  I remember a link to a post where they did a head to head comparison of the V&H and Rineharts.   Used the same bike etc.  On that dyno and on that day the V&H produced bigger numbers and a better curve.

Dakota, the V&H are the 4" Classics and the Bassanni are the 4" HO Bagger mufflers.  Having looked inside both, the difference is the V&H baffle is about 6 inches long where the Bassanni is full length.

I had the V&H Basic slip ons on my '04 Road King Classic.  I believe they are the same pipe as your Classics, just don't have the end cap.  They were about as loud as I would want.  Probably too loud if you want to listen to the radio.  That's why I'm also thinking about the V&H Ovals.  I've had good luck with V&H.

I think if you want maximum performance from the Bassani's you need to go with the Bassani True Dual headers.  I know of a few guys that swear that is the way to go for peak performance.  If I did the Bassani's I would probably use the Megaphone mufflers.

I had the Bassani Power Curves on my '04 Ultra, they are suppose to be the best true dual setup for performance, but the shields leave a bit to be desired.  I wasn't happy with the way they lay over each other and having a seam right where it was clearly visible.  But strictly from a performance aspect they are great, it's the whole equal length thing....

I have the full bassani system. And the doherty power pack air intake and the race tuner. It dynoed at 94 hp 101 tq too me thats a little short on hp but the air temperture was 86 in the booth could lost some there. Next upgrade zippers new cams. I had this system on a 04 road glide 14000 miles no problems. They sound very nice [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

So the word back from Kendall's place is that they've had the best luck making power with Bassani duals.
They're also impressed with the results from the Twin Tec fuel controller.   Based on that I've got a Twin
Tec fuel controller on order, but I'm going to go with the Rineharts since they they have the twin sensor ports already installed.   The Bassani's were going to require that we weld drill and then weld those in.

Hoping to have everything here in time for ROT rally, but they say it takes about 1000 miles of data for the fuel controller to get dialed in.  I'll dyno test after that.

Take care all
